Well, Japanese punk exists, but it rather falls into the JRock cathegory. As can the Pillows [also, for example, Plastic Tree] be considered a kind of soft grunge.
Alice 9 is pretty much punky. Maybe Gazette, too. Also Kagrra. Bands mentioned in decreased order of well-knowness ;pp.
Considering Heavy, the most classic type of JHeavyMetal I've ever heard are the Guilty Gear OSTs. They're pure HM ^_____^ - can't have enough of playing them.
Maybe the last Dir en Grey album, withering to Death. It's easy to find on the Net. (Note: not really, you'll have to search! Still possible ;pp). It's somewhat trashy and pretty metal. Partly. Still JRock.
See, it all differs on what U consider an upbeat song. I must agree, Megumi-chan is pretty much upbeat.
