buddykiller wrote:nobody ever just mentions themselves, if they talk about themselves it's the entire fucking song, great bands such as cannibal corpse, marduk, 311, dark funeral, pink floyd, the doors, ect... have written ENTIRE ALBUMS about themselves in one form or another, and i'm gonna go out on a limb here and say that in fact if you analyze most albums that are on the market today over 60% of every album is about and/or talks about the band...

Oh no you dehn't!
Entire albums written completely about themselves?! That's a blatent fucking lie and you know it, the same with the 60% of every album bullshit. I wouldn't have even said anything if you didn't mention mah boys, 311. Face it, you're just an ignorant asshole. Zero has bested you in every...*sigh*...well, if you can call those arguments.

lol, listen to the blue album, 'nuff said, the entire cd revolves around the band and their beleifs, 311 mention talk about themselves alot, they are a fucking awsome band though. and the 60% thing is not a lie, it's an estimate that i came up with off the top of my head

GODDAMMIT!!! SHUT THE FUCK UP!

Ok, your retardation got to me.

The artists have money why?!? TELL ME WHY! Do you want to know why? Because they mark themselves as something people would listen to. IMAGE IS EVERYTHING! Would Linkin Park be popular if they didn't change their name from Hybrid Theory? Would TOOL be popular if they didn't change their name from a long as philosophical statement?

NO!

Image image image. Snoop dogg is popular because he makes himself seem like a badass and shows it to the world, then all the kids that think the same way, like it because they can "relate". Same with Eminem. He shows what? That he doesn't give a shit, so he connects with the teenage populous "gangbangers" or the rest of the populous that has what? gone through what he says he's gone through.

He has an image, that attracts people.

Slap a "I hate homos" shirt on and walk into a gaybar, would people like you? no.

You attract certain things by the way you are. The reason these artists are popular is not because they are the best, it's because they have the image to attract people. Eminem is not the best, and he never will be. The best can never be objective so yes, this is an endless debate.

BUT THAT WASNT MY DEBATE!

My debate was, they are popular, not because they are good, but because they have the image.

SO SHUT THE FUCK UP! God, get a clue you moron. GAH!

The blue album, really? Hmm, that's funny. The only songs from that album that they really talk about themselves is in "Down," which is a tribute to their fans, and "Hive," which is about them partying. Sure, in some of the other songs they mihgt mention themselves for a lyric or two, but that hardly constitutes them writing an entire album about themselves. Also, I find it funny that something you came up with off the top of your head isn't a lie Image

I'm still wondering which album Pink Floyd made that they sang entirely about themselves in, and if he's going to say The Wall, I'll be kicking some cyber ass.

ok, i didn't intend it as the truth and i didn't intend on it being taken as a fact, just as an estimation, and your ignoring such songs as t&p combo which is all about 311, Guns Are For Pussies, another song all about 311 mixed with a large beleif of theirs (pacifism), Jack-O-Lantern's Weather, all about how they rap, not to mention DMLD.... bah I'M TIRED OF FUCKING ARGUING!!!!!! never again am i going to visit this particular thread o_O

says you, once again your attempting to use an opinion as a fact, granted a name can make your band easier to remember, but i'm sure theres a million bands out there with short or catchy names that never make it out of their local circuit so while a name or looks may help, they mean shit without talent and never once did you ever say or even remotly lead the reader on to beleive that you where talking about image over wether or not their good... but as i said, i'm tired of arguing, we could argue this all day long and it won't make a shits bit of difference, simply because it is a matter of opinion wether somebody is a good musician or if their shit

i didn't see this post... and yes it was the wall which was all about roger waters, not necisarily pink floyd, but roger waters so nya, while it did have overtones of opposition to war and the effects of war, it was based upon waters experiances of the war

Wow I just read this whole thing...how stupid it is lol
why argument over somthing that is pure preferance?

I mean certain people will like certain things, you have no right to say so and so sucks just because you don't like them. Think about it, everyone will like different things.

You can go around and say "I hate rap and I hate country." but that doesn't mean anything, just because you don't like it and someone else does, doesn't mean you should Raz them!! We have different tastes and lifestlyes, which forms us as people. No type of music is any "better" then the other, we just simply have different views and liking to things.

This whole arguement is pointless...artists make music/videos because they have an idea and something that drives them. One person sings about themself and their past where as the other sings about things that happen in the world.

We make AMV's because we have an idea, that doesn't mean EVERYONE is going to like it, you make it for YOU beacause YOU want to. It's not about pleaseing others.....

For example, I don't care for most rap or county but that doesn't mean it's BAD music..... when you start thinking that you are better then someone else, thats when you need to sit down and think about things a little bit.

I'm late getting in on this, I know. There is so much in this thread that I want to respond to, but I don't feel like getting in to too much detail right now. Here's my two cents anyway. I tried not to repeat something anyone already said, but just in case I'm sorry if I did. :)

A person can say he offers his art for money, and I can just as easily say that money is offered for his art.

Who the hell cares if you've talked to people who believe that making money off your art makes it a "product" and less real. I've talked to more than a couple people who believe just the opposite. The key word there is that this is what they BELIEVE. There are people who believe technology is evil, people who believe that pre-marital sex is wrong, people who believe that there is/isn't a god, and people who believe that women deserve to be beaten to death in public for not adequately hiding every inch of their body behind robes. That doesn't make any of it true.

Art is art. It's an extension of who you are. A creative forum for you to express yourself where this is no right and no wrong. They simply do not exist. Eminem writes about his experiences and how he feels about things. Any true artist wouldn't say that his art isn't real simply because he is making money off of it or because he doesn't rap about subjects like world famine or terrorism. His music still has meaning, it still has messages, it still expresses who he is and what he feels, and it still affects people. He's using mainstream media to get it out, and it's something massive amounts of people can relate to on both emotional and psychological levels.

Isn't that what you say music made for? What art has "been made for for centuries"?

I understand your argument... But I don't agree with it. I personally don't care much for Eminem. I think he whines way too much and that he is a sellout to some degree. It's your purgative to think what you want about him. But being successful, regardless of what he does or says to achieve that success or what people think of him, does not take away from the fact that he is still an amazingly talented artist and his music is still is art. Anyone who would deny that is either too arrogant to look past their own preconceived notions to see it, or doesn't know jack shit to begin with.
