I have no idea what this all has to do with the original topic, anyway.

I felt the need to bring up Iced Earth because they are a prime example of a Prog Metal band I hate. I have no idea what your name or the name of the band or whatever it was your talking about has to do with the connection of me mentioning them. There's one or 2 dream theater songs I like, there's 1 or 2 SyX songs I like, there's a few Iced Earth songs I like, etc etc etc, but overall, these bands make the shittiest music I've ever heard.

Now, if you're going to take my opinion as truth on the matter, well then, I think you need to get your head examined.
Nailz likes to generalize. There is a particular type of music he dislikes - which, he decided, is called Prog Metal, and it sucks.
See, I didn't decide to call it Prog Metal. The sub-catagory of the genere was there long before I became a metal fan. If you don't like it, Otohiko, take it up with the rest of the metal community, not me.
If you knew anything about metal, you'd know that Iced Earth is American Power metal. But it's pretty obvious that you don't. I'd think I'd know, seeing as they are my favorite band and since I've been listening to heavy metal for most of my life.

If you don't want me to take your word for truth then don't phrase it as such, dammit.

Just say that they suck to you or that 'in my opinion' stuff. Then I'd be happy to ignore it and you, because I didn't take music classes and become well educated in the subject to let you insult undeniably good music the way you are doing.

Didn't we have this discussion already? And didn't we conclude that progressive metal is a worthless term because it has to unify over Cynic, King Crimson, Dream Theater, and Sigh? WHY IS THIS EVEN IN THIS TOPIC?

And nailz, I'd really like some concrete reasons on how and why Iced Earth are prog. You're about the only person I've ever heard opine that they are somehow progressive; indeed, me and every other metalhead I've yet encountered values Iced Earth because they do anything BUT progress.

Besides Jon Schaffer's guitar style, Iced Earth has added almost nothing to the NWOBHM/melodic-thrash style that was already fully developed when Jon started Purgatory. It's not that Iced Earth does new stuff after the style of a Solefald or Agalloch; it's that Iced Earth does classic stuff very well with a great deal of smash and fire.

What does prog have that Iced Earth has? Hyper-intellectualized lyrics, lots of keyboards, pyrotechnic guitar solos, collective instrumental excellence? Don't think so. Iced Earth is one man's storytelling vision, one man's creative outlet, and that man plays *rhythm guitar* better than nearly anyone else on the planet. And what Jon says goes. His way or the highway.

Where is the prog? Maybe I'm spoiled, listening to too much Death and Nevermore, and just can't draw that hair-thin line between prog and power metal anymore. I honestly await answers.

I'd kiss you but you might hold it against me.

I'd also like to mention Matt Barlow's awesome vox along side Jon's guitar... too bad we'll never hear those again. All we get is Ripper and back to semi-genericism, unless Jon pulls some grand instrumentals out of his ass.

No, then we'd all be bitching about who is more true than who.

My life got a lot simpler when I started also listening to death metal, and didn't have to put up with 'evil' poses any more.

Death Kristjan is fucking truer than ALL of you.

I've honestly never had to argue over who is truer than who in black metal but I can see it being brought up.

ok Kai, you convinced me enough. Iced Earth has lost the prog metal status, but they still suck. =P

Set_Abominae... try stating reasons to prove your case, rather than hurling unnecessary insults. It's annoying. Prog Metal (and SEPERATELY now, thanks to reasoning. omg. Iced Earth.) Is shitty music. Ick. =P Why is it shitty music? Because I think it is. Is it shitty to you? no. Do I give a fuck if you like it? Also no.
