What, are you saying that dressing goth will be the new Abercrombie & Fitch, the new "thing to do", so to speak? That it would be right for the evolution of art? Because it sure looks like thats what you're saying, and to tell you the truth, I wouldn't be a damned bit surprised if that did happen. Each element of society, each clique, has pioneers in and among themselves that set off new ideas for their own fashion. If Pop singers start dressing goth, you have the true degradation of music right there. Because when they start dressing the part, they're probably going to try and sing the part. Problem is, they will be bad at it. They won't experiment with new ways to use the synthesizer, or new dance moves that will get everyone all hyped up. The possibilities of a Pop star are infinite, the possibilities of a Pop star trying to sing like a punk are limited, because at some point, she will have to decide to go one way, or the other when she hits the fork in the road.atrophiedXlungs wrote: So you both think that uniforms are a good thing in music? The easiest way to explain it is like this: A smart guy once told me there are two basic groups within any underground music scene, there are those who pay tribute to bands of the past, and the pioneering element. Conforming to any specific look or sound is destructive to the pioneering element within any scene, and speeds along the degradation of music as an art form.

She is not paying homage to anybody, she's just trying to look like a badass. Second of all, I guess by what you're saying I should pay homage to classical music by wearing leggings and puffy shirts when I sing heavy metal, I mean, after all, the music we have today came from that.

I'm not trying to sound condescending here, but you completely missed my point. I'm not even adressing any involvement of the mainstream here (which I suppose makes this something of a tangent off of the original argument, but you two started it). I'm saying, that the "uniforms" within any specific underground music scene: such as punks in mowhawks and spikes, the underground hip-hop "backpackers," indie-rock mods, the rave "candy kids"...well, all of that perpetuates the stagnation of the specific musical style /scene it's associated with. And stagnation is what degrades music as an art form, end of story.TheKorovaMilkbar wrote:What, are you saying that dressing goth will be the new Abercrombie & Fitch, the new "thing to do", so to speak? Probably, I wasn't all there cause I was really tired when I responded. Anyway we both have said what needed to be said, case closed.atrophiedXlungs wrote:I'm not trying to sound condescending here, but you completely missed my point.

Did that make sense? I'm still pretty tired.

Avril Lavigne is hot, and she has a good voice and a lot of talent. She can certainly sing.
She can't rap, though.
Hmm, yeah, Avril-chan's a hottie. I need to buy her latest CD.... And besides, any girl as hot as her who reveals her buttcrack at award shows and gets into feuds with Hillary Duff can't be alll that bad.

De-evolution? I'm quite sure that there's no such thing...unless you're making a Devo reference, in which case I'm down.

this post makes no sense on any level. go sit in the corner and think about what you've written.azulmagia wrote:Avril Lavigne is hot, and she has a good voice and a lot of talent. She can certainly sing.

is it really true that avril originally wanted to be a country singer, but the music execs changed her to a "punk" singer so she would sell better? if so, than that reveals everything you need to know about her.

A young middle school girl who goes by the name oracleofseasons came on this board to discuss Avril Lavinge, a singer who's songs she deeply loved. Then sudenly people started arguments about Avril, originality in art and some other crap I probably havent read because this thread got dead, fast. Did you people even bother to think for a second about this girl. I doubt she wanted an argument of such proportions as in this thread. She just wanted to chat with people who enjoy the music she enjoys. Yet here you guys are, shoving your harsh oppinions down her throat. I know your entitled to your oppinion, but for fucks sake it doesnt mean you've gota express it every single chance you get, esspecialy if its negative in some way, as with most posts in this god forsaken thread. If you want to argue about Avril, make a thread about it. Dont hijack a thread that someone created to discuss something they enjoy, it just wrecks it and its your fault for creating a negative feeling in the thread.Oracleofseasons wrote:I love this girl !!!!!!!!!! Their musics are very beautifull , and she too !!!!!
I'm taking to everyone who posted a reply to this thread, and I admit that I'm guilty of this myself. As far as this thread is concerned, we all sound like a bunch of wankers that go on forums soely to piss of people because we get some pathetic form of enjoyment out of it. Before you post another strong oppinion that you know will lead into or continue an argument, stop, read through the thread and decide weather it appropriate. If it isnt, post something lighthearted, or post nothing at all.
