Simple Question [what makes you hate rap so vehemently?]

This is the PERFECT topic for me!
Why does hip-hop suck?
I'd like to ask y'all: What's good about hip-hop?
Nothing.
On an AMV sense, I just don't think that any hip-hop song, or anything in a genre related to hip-hop makes good AMVs..
But it goes much deeper than that.
It's dumb, and it makes people dumb. Ever since 5th or 6th grade or so (I'm 11th right now), I've noticed that the jackarse people who are either dumb or just get horrible grades are mostly people who listen to hip-hop vehemently (I got bad grades Freshman year.. but that's because I was a freshman, heh. ).
Every hip-hop artist is pretty much conformist and sold-out. They all talk about the same thing- hanging out with their G's, raping the shit out of their bitches, bragging about da bling-bling they have, and if it isnt any of those well.. it's Eminem.. and i hate Eminem.
And have you ever watched black history month stuff on MTV? I remember seeing stuff promoting Hip-Hop as African heritage, or some bull like that. And then they play hip hop.. "Yo wazzup to my G's let's go knock some bitches off their feet with our bling then rape them", is pretty much the message I get.. and that is so not African heritage..
There's probably more to my rant that I can't think of right now, but there ya go. Hip-hop is crap. Rap is just an acronym for retards attempting poetry. That's my opinion and im sticking to it

All I can say is, from this, it would seem all the more true that the mainstream is doing a dis-service to all sorts of music.
This is sort of like what son_goten/scarfac3 was like a couple of months back, only in reverse. Ever imagine what sort of impression unaware people get about metal from what they see on MTV?
I guess the wiggers next door aren't helping the image, either. But, remember that a lot of sorts of music seem to have the mass-culture forms, which we see on MTV and everyone and their cousin Jamie knows and loves/hates; and then there's the real 'artsy' stuff, which, in most (though not all) cases is hidden beneath the surface.
Rap is no exception, from my understanding. There's the mainstream, but then there's the 'hardcore' stuff, 'cult' artists, and a whole undiscovered underground culture.
Mainstream rap doesn't appeal to me for the obvious reasons. The hardcore, real bad-ass gangster rap doesn't appeal to me because I'm distanced from the value system and musical language it carries. But then, every once in a while, someone digs up some rap-rock, and I like it. Or, someone shows me some... I don't know what to call it - 'stoner rap'? 'progressive/avant-garde rap'?... anyway, I dig that too.
I've long discovered that there's good things everywhere. Sadly, the entertainment-oriented (as opposed to art-oriented) mainstream doesn't do a good job of representing most genres, from rap to metal to country to pop. There is good stuff in the mainstream, but it tends to narrow things down and emphasize mass appeal and marketability.
Frankly, I frown upon the new mainstream-ized rap culture as much as the next guy, but that doesn't mean I don't acknowledge the musical possibilities of rap.

Speaking of which, why am I posting in this thread again?

The Birds are using humanity in order to throw something terrifying at this green pig. And then what happens to us all later, that’s simply not important to them…

Well TaylrMayd, you wrote back time ago but no one answered so thought I might as well do so since someone disturbed the thread peace in this one.
First off it’s slightly insulting that you suggest we watch/listen to MTV/top 40 radio, at least mainly. Since I can’t speak for everyone I’ll say my piece.
I know of the existence of MTV Japan, MTV Europe (various incarnations) and MTV Latino. So there’s a bunch of them but you make it seem like all the people here live in the US and we just watch good old MTV, at least it sounds that way. Note to yourself, that isn’t the case in this place (a-m-v.org), this site is international.
Like you I love music, have always stated that I’m eclectic, listening to a whole plethora of music genres in countless languages.
The fact that I haven’t had 80K in my hand in cash (but ¼ of a million in a check is good anyways) is notwithstanding. Don’t care about drugs or the bling-bling and even non rap fans know that P. Diddy isn’t gangsta, because that is laughable at best.
Empathy? I’ve lots of it, since I haven’t shot my annoying neighbors yet after years of suffering.
One would think that living in a neighborhood like mine would save me.
I know what artist listen to; they always try to “broaden their horizons” since they believe that will help them grow as artists. If I broadened my horizons anymore they would reach the 16th century or something.
In the end rap may be loved by some and it might have sub genres but the fact remains that it has degenerated into something that mostly brings nothing to the table.
The most I get out of it is “party music”, that’s about it.
That doesn’t mean other genres are better but I don’t think they are causing the damage rap is. I won’t say more because my case was plainly stated on an earlier post.
So in the end it may be getting hot in here because you’re dealing with a P.I.M.P. but I would rather not deal with it at all.
PS: To the person that said that you can’t use rap for an AMV.
What about Bone Thugs-n-Harmony’s “Crossroads”? It’s a great song that Aluminum Studios used for one.
