Actually, since it's for torchic, regardless of how save works, you don't have to worry.
You get the distro card from the main menu, with its own option. New Game is an option on its own, so you can just get the event from the main menu and stop there without starting a game.

Spoiler :

1) I had Honedge, which means Fighting and Normal moves do squat (unless you use Detect);
2) Korrina just kept using non-combative moves over and over without even trying to use Detect or any offensive move of any kind. Meinfoo just used Calm Mind over and over until KO'd, then Machamp used Leer over and over until KO'd, and finally Hawlucha used Honed Claws over and over until KO'd.

She is quite frankly the stupidest Gym Leader I've ever faced, and I've played Pokemon since the original Red & Blue. >_>
