I'm just wondering, since to me an album is sometimes one single big unit, and it just doesn't make sense when you start taking it apart and reducing it to a collection of songs...

Honorable mention goes to Weezer: The Blue Album.. it's already been mentioned once, but it could easily be overlooked as a flavour-of-the-week vision. But it certainly holds SOME staying power, and could turn out to be a bit of a cult classic in years to come. But all of the above have proven themselves in the longer term (ok, The Fragile, point taken) and are worth investigation if you don't know them.
