Re: tf2 community group
mmm... too tired to really rage about this new unlock system
(played 4 hours... got.... a Force-a-Nature and a Flare Gun)
It's a good thing I have a convention to go to this weekend, ya know, something to distract me from TF2 while they fix this.
...else I'd be pissed

And I don't know, I kind of like it. At least they're rewarding players for simply playing the game now, rather than forcing people who desperately want the weapons to grind achievements. I assume the system will only get better as they beef it up, tweak it, and add trading to the mix.Tsunami Jones wrote:This random unlock system is rubbish!
Plus now, I'm much happier when I get an achievement or a random unlock, it's a pleasant little surprise instead of an "okay, one more headshot to get the first unlock, then I can actually do five more achievements for the next one"

Accept people are still grinding it, since you can get them from spectating. Once it's done and there's actually a trade system, it'll be better, but right now it's just unfinished.Kristyrat wrote:And I don't know, I kind of like it. In all games where time must be put in to grind achievements or anything else, there will always be someone who has more free time than you, and is willing to spend all of that free time grinding the game. Example, all MMORPGs.
Remember when TF was a Quake mod, and didn't have all this complicated nonsense? Yeah, I miss that...

Re: tf2 community group
I'm not sure I hate that they removed the achievements, but think I like this new system. *gasp*
I was watching RadioactiveCat play the other day and noticed she didn't have a few of the old unlocks, so this is a better way for her to get them.
You may enjoy playing and just... getting achievements, but believe me when I say it's not for everybody.
The newbies for the free weekend might have actually gotten to play with some of the unlocks without pointedly having to go for achievements.
The only other thing I think this system has HELPED is that most servers aren't ENTIRELY filled with spies and snipers. Now, with the update being two support classes, this is perhaps the most important time to do something about the post-update flood.
While I've been playing this weekend, I've noticed a few people getting the old milestone achievements, and they still get the associated weapon.
So really, the old system wasn't REMOVED... so why can't we have the best of both worlds?
Personally, all I'm missing are the Ambassador and the Cloak and Dagger (and all of the hats), so I'm pretty okay with the new system since it hasn't really shafted me, like it has many others. Then again, I've been playing a lot. =P

Grinding and getting achievements is one thing. Standing around AFK for 12 hours while you're given items is another.Garylisk wrote:In all games where time must be put in to grind achievements or anything else, there will always be someone who has more free time than you, and is willing to spend all of that free time grinding the game. I've only gotten one new item so far, and the rest being duplicates. The Dead Ringer, is however, amazing. Might need a bit of tweaking, but it's fantastic (giving up the ability to cloak normally and not refill the meter with metal is a pretty good trade off for it, along with the ridiculous loud sound it makes when you uncloak)meleechampion wrote: While I've been playing this weekend, I've noticed a few people getting the old milestone achievements, and they still get the associated weapon.

Also, very suddenly, I'm actually disguising as things other than pyro. Disguising as an enemy spy now is disturbingly effective.
