I don't know about "everybody," but as for myself, I'm one of those consumer whores, i listen to whatever eveyone else is listening.

As for personal likes, I'm a fan of soft music with a hard edge, if you know what i mean.

From what I've seen, it's the hardest-core metalheads or industrial-nuts that seem to have the best understanding of the widest range of music. Strange as it may sound, but I think their ability to focus attention on one kind of music often translates into an ability to understand other kind of music well when the need arises.

That's how I see it, anyway
Thanks!
And the term generally accepted for industrial fans is "Rivet-head". Yeah, it's silly, but really, so are the lyrics to most of the songs I listen to.

I'd say you're right. I'm a pretty hard-core rivet-head, damn near every CD I buy is industrial or a least all gothy. But, the exceptions range from soft beautiful ambient works (such as Sigur Ros) to straight up bad-ass metal (SYL and Sentenced) to simply undefinable (Legendary Pink Dots) to stuff even you would like (David Sylvain's solo stuff, and of course tweaker), to silly-ass electro-clash (Ladytron all the way).

My guess it's because those who focus mainly on one 'genre' are used to searching for stuff beyond the mainstream - and people who listen to 'underground' music love to give each other suggestions. Hey, you got me listening to King Crimson!
(It also makes us look more pretentious, which is a big plus)

Really, it's all just music anyways. As long is it makes you think, dance, or just rock out, it's good. And if it does all three, it's probably Ministry you're listening to.

Rivet-head. Yea, that makes sense - just forgot the right term.

It's actually kinda funny, but about a year ago I used to have the wrong impression of some of the hardcore crowds. Or, at least I fully admit to under-estimating both metalheads and rivet-heads. Seemed like meat and large tin pots was all they were after in music. But nope, there's more to these peoples than it might have seemed. Actually, I think I have more in common with those groups than I do with classic rock fans which I used to ascribe myself to a couple of years back.

Or maybe it's just having -head in the name?
(you know, Krimhead, the obvious term...)

There's nothing wrong with liking head. Head is indeed good stuff.

Is it just me, or is there anyone else out there who acutally might like this band if they were actually called LINLIN Park and made music that went with that name?

Otohiko: i never heard of the singers but i'm sure you're all are listenin'
to rock/matel/pop
or jap' music
and Yeah i've heard alot of pop/rock singers('cause its all over mtv)
but i guess that i didnt bother myself and read the subtitles
Vlad86:
i didn't know that there is something like "mizrahit" in english
lol.....that must be really weird....

calling someone "the Realest Mutha - Phukka That Ever Born" doesn't seem to strike any interest in me. If anything, it makes me want to listen less.
this means that he's real he's not like these fake-ass mtv rappers that talk about guns when they dont have any
and i'm not sayin' that pac had guns
he wasn't even a gangsta
but he talk about his "thug life"
and that was true
that's the meaning of :
"The Realest Mutha - Phukka That Ever Born"
Didn't Limp Bizkit manage to say fuck like 47 times in the song "Hot Dog" off Chocolate Starfish and the Hot Dog Flavored Water? So technically that's not a record.
1.did you check it?
2.even if he did do it there is no way he can say fuck more the 47 times without makin' the
chorus sound like "fuck,fuck,fuck,fuck,fuck,fuck,fuck,fuck,fuck,fuck"
and here is pac's chorus:

Grab ya glocks, when you see Tupac
Call the cops, when you see Tupac, uhh
Who shot me, but ya punks didn't finish
Now ya bout to feel the wrath of a menace
nigga, I hit em' up...

you see not even one "fuck"
pac has rhymes
limp is just tryin' to be cool and scream : "fuck" every tow seconds
any 4 years old can scream : "fuck" every tow seconds
3.limp is doin' it 'cause he's tryin' to be "cool"
pac tryed to diss B.I.G.,Puffy,lil' kim and a lot more
Better than Guns 'N' Roses?
What you don't like "Welcome to the Jungle"? Now that's a classic!
with all do respect bob marley is the classiest songs ever and yes he's much better then these gay mutha - phukkaz

Otohiko:
i'm listenin' to raggae because its very relaxing and when i'm sick i'm listenin' to raggae and it helps me(and some other rap songs)
and rap :
1.there is a good beat(and its not annoying like these mutha phukkin' drums)
2.it comes from the heart(well, some of 'em)

and a lot more it whould be a really big list you see....

I politely disagree. I don't think you have the slightest idea of what some of us are listening to  Because, if you look at some of the things that people called upon, they don't sound like anything else around; so, whatever you know about rock music might not apply at all to a lot of 'rock' music. And pretty much nothing I listen to is ever on the MTV; and same goes for a few of the other hardcore folks around here.

But, whatever...

If we're speaking in terms of the 'realest' musicians - now there's a subjective area if I've ever seen one! I think most of us can agree that reality isn't something that's the same for everyone; and sometimes it's hardly even similar.

So, for instance, in my case - gang violence, drugs, the black community, etc. - these things are on the outer edges of my 'reality'. On the other hand, things like philosophical questions, world politics, or personal internal struggles are very close to my centre of reality. I don't deal with thug life, and, were I a little more arrogant, I would probably say that from my perspective, it isn't even real. Luckily, I'm more informed than that...

The 'realest musician' for me is Robert Fripp, because he successfully disassociated himself from the 'inherent and delineated' in music; which means music alone is his focus. Which is why the guy sits on a stool, in the dark, not facing the audience, and hardly even moving, and plays some of the most incredible & personal music possible. In other words, music goes in Bob, music comes out of Bob. And not much else. That's 'real musicianship' for me.

***

As for 'true songcraft' - the only 'real' song I know of is Happy With What You Have To Be Happy With. That's a real song. The rest are distorted interpretations of reality.
