I have very little problems with it. Maybe once a year, if that, I encounter an issue. Nothing I can't fix though.

I honestly can't remember if I got this junk during the 2008 cycle (when I actually was registered third party rather than being NPA/Independent).

No, it doesn't matter, they're just sending out mass mailings. I'm registered to one party, and I'm still getting a ton of shit from the other.
