People on LJ are grossly oversensitive. I compared a man who beat off two woman who were attacking him at a mcdonald's with having the mental state of any person who is getting attacked. This may include going a little too far with how they retaliate in self defense, but it doesn't make them in the wrong. I made an example of how a woman who was constantly beaten by her husband many times almost to the point of death retaliated and stabbed him fifty six times, and a prosecutor tried to say she should be charged with murder because it was "overkill". I made a point of saying that she was scared for her life and in the middle of attacking him she wasn't thinking clearly, so of course she might have went "overboard" but that doesn't mean she was in the wrong.

Then all of a sudden someone says I was sick for comparing a battered woman to a cashier being attacked by two crazy ass women at a mcdonalds and that I CONDONE WIFE BEATING, all of a sudden.

Ugh I never thought I'd have to use this thread but I needa vent >:(

Let's start the day of making pancakes for lunch. Mom comes in and takes half of one. I joke around saying "oh no! That was the best one I made" and laugh it off of course. She gets mad, calls me greedy and goes on a nice lil lecture FIFTEEN minutes after the incident!

Next I decide to watch TV while eating my delicious pancakes and check out the Travel Channel, one of my favorite channels to watch. I notice that it has been blocked! Keep in mind that the show I'm watching is only Rated PG. Ask my mom about it and she says that she saw a half naked lady on one of the shows and it was Rated PG. So basically she blocked EVERYTHING rated PG and up! She wont even give me the PIN to unblock the show and I am 20 years old. She did this cuz she's worried that my bro might run into these channels.

Now here's the catch. Blocking TV shows is only with the cable box thingy. I don't have the box so I can watch anything with limited channels (IE no Travel Channel, G4 or anything higher than channel 100). My brother has a TV in his room with no cable box as well! If he wanted to, he could watch shows like South Park, Family Guy, any Adult Swim shows, basically ANYTHING within those limited channels! And those are a lot worse than seeing a half naked lady from Africa on the Travel Channel.

Btw we don't have HBO or Starz or anything like that.

Uh yes. At this stage, it really does sound like time to move on. Parents - even really good ones - often have problems treating their kids as anything but kids, even when they're old enough to be responsible for themselves (and, sometimes, older than when said parents were already married and had kids). I've seen plenty of exceptions to that, of course, but in my case as much as I love my parents I'm actually very happy that I've a) moved out; b) moved 400 miles away from where my parents live. It's been fascinating to watch their attitude towards me change - it took them about 4 years of me living away to catch on, but over the last few months I've really seen them come around, get their own life that doesn't involve me as subordinate to their plans, and start treating me like an adult. Really has done wonders for the relationship. They actually call me for advice on life decisions now.

So, do what you can to get out. You'll be grateful for it, and not just because you can watch PG-rated shows and not be lectured. It really does change attitudes.

I can hardly conceive the level of stupidity it takes to decide that wearing a costume sporting the word 'rape' is witty/fashionable/clever/or otherwise good in any way... and while I wouldn't wish trauma even on such an unrepentant fucktard, I wish anyone showing up in public like that would get decked (preferably by someone with a better swing than me).

If you're talking about the Catherine game tshirt with the letter R, A, a heart with an arrow through it, and E, then it's supposed to spell RAVE, not RAPE, but it's understandable that people see it as rape. I thought that's what it said too at first >_>
