We have a ton of videos that were saved in Quicktime, but need to be burned to DVD. Avid does this just fine, but my boss is using that particular computer a lot and I can't hog it all day. So he hands me the card and I go pickup a copy of Pinnacle Studio HD Ultimate 15. It specifically says it imports damn near everything INCLUDING .mov files. After I install, I go to import the first video. No audio whatsoever. Plays just fine in QT, not in Pinnacle. So I go back to the DVD master intending to cut out the parts I need. The import manager says the whole title is about 01:15:00 (of which i need maybe 30 minutes)...so far so good. Once imported, it tries to say the entire thing is 00:01:22
..... After some googling, I realize this is NOT an uncommon issue, but it seems there are 20 diff workarounds and none of them seem to actually WORK. And to top it all off, to contact support you need an "Avid Support Code", which costs $10 and is good for ONE SINGLE CALL. That's on top of charging for the damn manual.
So to make a long story short, I dropped $100 on a program that doesn't work, and they want MORE money to even talk to me about the problem.
Avid, you twats have just made my future purchasing decisions that much easier. Fsck you very much.
