Well said Oto! *applauds*

I agree with you that reality is a very dubious term as one's reality may significantly differ from another's.

And goten, if Limp Bizkit is only saying fuck to be cool, then how is dissing other people any cooler?

Oh, and yes, I checked the lyrics to the song before I posted, there are indeed 47 fucks in that song. Wait, 48. The booklet has such small, scrunched together type.
Here's the lyrics:

"Hot Dog"

Ladies and gentlement!
Introducing the Chocolate Starfish!
and the Hotdog Flavored Water
Bring it on!
Get the fuck up!
Yeah!
Check, one, two

Listen up, listen up!
Here we go
It's a fucked world
We're a fucked up place
Everybody's judged by their fucked up face
Fucked up dreams
Fucked up life
A fucked up kid
With a fucked up knife
Fucked up moms
And fucked dads
It's a fucked up a cop
With a fucked up badge
Fucked up job
With fucked up pay
And a fucked up boss
Is a fucked up pain
Fucked up press
And fucked up lies
Well, Lethal's in the back
With the fact of the fires

Hey, it's on
Everybody knows this song
Hey, it's on
Everybody knows this song

Ain't it a shame that you can't say "Fuck"
Fuck's just a word
And it's all fucked up
Like a fucked up punk
With a fucked up mouth
A nine ninch nail
I'll get knocked the fuck out
Fucked up babes
Who fucked up sex
Fake ass titties
On a fucked up chest
We're all fucked up
So whatcha wanna do?
We fucked up me
And fucked up you

You wanna fuck me like an animal
You'd like to burn me on the inside
You like to think that I'm a perfect drug
Just know that nothing you do
Will bring you closer to me

Ain't life a bitch?
A fucked up bitch
A fucked up soul with a fucked up stitch
A fucked up head
Is a fucked up shame
Swinging on my nuts
Is a fucked up game
Jealousy filling up a fucked up mind
It's real fucked up
Like a fucked up crime
If I say "Fuck", two more times
That's fourty six "Fucks" in this fucked up rhyme

It's on
Everybody knows this song
Hey, it's on
Everybody knows this song

You wanna fuck me like an animal
You'd like to burn me on the inside
You like to think that I'm a perfect drug
Just know that nothing you do
Will bring you closer to me

Hooo Haaa Haaaw!
Listen up baby
You.. can't.. bring.. me.. (bring me).. down
I.. don't.. think.. so
I don't want some
You.. better.. check.. your.. (check it).. self
Before.. you.. wreck.. your.. self
This.. my.. star.. fish
My.. choco.. late.. Starfish.. punk
This.. my.. star.. fish
My.. choco.. late.. Starfish.. punk

You wanna fuck me like an animal
You'd like to burn me on the inside
You like to think that I'm a perfect drug
Just know that nothing you do
Will bring you closer to me

Not that great of a song, but it prooves that 47 is not the record.
Also, strangely, I consider "nigga" and all other forms of that word to be worse than fuck. I don't know why, but I just do. And seeing as how a lot of rap has this word in it, I tend to like it less than even the song above.

Someone better than Bob Marley, and more classy?
How about Mozart, Bach, or Beethoven?

One last thing, aren't those beats in the song from an electical device (forgot the name) that simulates a drum beat?

And if you want a real deep beat, listen to Blue Man Group's "Synaesthetic" with the bass turned up. Now that's what a big-ass drum is capable of.
The Big O will KILL you!

Fred Durst: Proof that no matter how many NIN references you throw in a song, it's still possible to be universally hated by the goth crowd.

As for 'real' music, meh.
I prefer detached and mechanical most of the time, with Current 93 being the main exception.
If nothing else, harsh noises get your attention.

Otohiko:
i hate 99% of rock 'cause i know the "recipe" for a rock song :

a fake-ass beeyatch that is talkin' about how he had a hard life that is
screamin' "fuck" everytime so everybody will say "hey,he's rude he's a bad guy" and all the lil' infants will like him 'cause he's a bad "dude"(annyin' word!!)

plus

the annoyin' drums and the fat beats that sound really bad

and here you have a metal singer.....

and i can bet that 100% of the shit they say is not real
they were born with a rich father and had like 5 cars
even before they had success with their album

i can give ya the "recipe" fo any type of music
but the point is that the rockers are fake-asses
and the rappers(some of 'em) are real knowhuti'msayin'?
the realest music comes from 2 Pac Shakur
Vlad86 : yeah limp broke the record but the song looks pathetic
like all the rock/metal sheet
look at the lyrics of this sheet:

Get the fuck up!
Yeah!
Check, one, two

conclusion :he's SOtryin' to be cool
and the :

Ain't it a shame that you can't say "Fuck"

that's SO stupid that's one of the most pathetic songs

look at the lyrics of "Changes"by 'Pac
(that's just a lil' part of the lyrics)
Come on come on
I see no changes wake up in the morning and I ask myself
is life worth living should I blast myself?
I'm tired of bein' poor & even worse I'm black
my stomach hurts so I'm lookin' for a purse to snatch
Cops give a damn about a negro
pull the trigger kill a nigga he's a hero
Give the crack to the kids who the hell cares
one less hungry mouth on the welfare

read this lyrics and try to understand 'em k?

and 4 me bob marley is more classic then that sheet

final conclusion rock is just SO pathetic! the only reason that the ppl
are listenin' to this sheet is mtv or the can't feel the ghetto spirit
'cause they're rich....
and 'Pac Rulez 4 Ever

There was a quote I posted in another thread...

Instead of being avoidant and articulate today, I'll be blunt: I don't think you even know what rock, or even music for that matter, really is. I tend to find your comments quite incompetent, and unconvincing. "5 cars and a rich dad?" , or "not real?". Seriously, this is... too stereotypical to be even given a chance.

Here's a 'rock song', Frank Zappa's 'Yo Mama' :

Maybe you should stay with yo' mama
She could do your laundry 'n' cook for you
Maybe you should stay with yo' mama
You're really kinda stupid 'n' ugly too

You ain't really made for bein' out in the street
Ain't much hope for a fool like you
'Cause if you play the game, you will get beat

Maybe you should stay with yo' mama
She could do your laundry 'n' cook for you
Maybe you should stay with yo' mama
You're really kinda stupid 'n' ugly too
And
You should never smoke in pajamas
You might start a fire 'n' burn yer face
Maybe you'll return to Managua
You could go unnoticed in such a place

****

Reflective of the situation? I think so

Incompetence, Ignorance and Indifference are 3 I's that I can't stand in music fans. :?

My point here isn't to generalize all of rap with a "recipe" but to point out that your "recipe" seems to fit rap more frequently than it fits rock. And this not to say it makes rap inferior to rock -- I'm just pointing out your "recipe" for rock is a very poor one.

Please read up on music history before making statements like these. Don't generalize rock with Limp Bizkit. His works represent a narrow subgenre of rock. Rock is too broad to be generalized with any single artist or "recipe."

And oh... while I accept the whole 'subjective reality' thing, I don't think you have an understanding of 'real' very much, either.

100% fake? I certainly doubt that...

Rock was always a form of social protest, and might I argue even a more effective one than rap ever became.

Remember the Beatles social messages? Or Zappa's scathing attacks on the 'establishment'? Or any other rock bands? Or the constantly political content of bands ranging from Rage Against the Machine to System of a Down to KMFDM? Or the back-to-basics, city-kids-oriented approach of punk rock? Even the highest-heavens prog-rock/metal keeps the world in perspective.

But you don't.

Lastly...

A function of language is to disclose. An effect is to reveal.

most of the rap song "do" have "fuck" but they rhyme it they dont just scream it to sound cool
and that sheet (the "recipe") was just for metal

i've read that N.W.A.(a famous rap band that was fightin' for the rights of black ppl)
got a letter from the FBI about their song("Fuck Tha police")
they said that they are humiliatin' young black male's for their color
did any of these wanna-be weild rockers got any letters?

now here's an idea gimme 5 songs to hear
(just write 'em and i'll get 'em)
and i'll give ya 5 songs
k?
you said that rock is not just about tryin' to be cool?

Otohiko:
Yeah most of 'em are fake
social protest?against who?
and with all do respect
that social protest comparing to the life in the ghetto is nothing

Again, Mr. Clueless decides to present some overt cluelessness in the face of even a hint at reasonable argument.

Life in the ghetto is limited to a certain community. Bad or not, it affects a limited group of people; while many issues brought up in the 'social protest' stream of rock songcraft are far more global, and I assure you - while life in the ghetto does not and will likely never affect me in this lifetime, degradation of western society, international politics, religious conflict, propaganda and attempts by authorities to restrict personal freedom surely do and will.

This isn't to say I'm much into this sort of music myself - no, not very. On the other hand, I dare say - if anything, this is NOT fake issues.

But, why not, I suggest some people do suggest 5 songs for Mr. Clueless. I would, but I'm afraid that at this degree of cluelessness, my types of music will whiz right by Mr. Clueless' ears.

And, a song for you:

King Crimson: Dinosaur

Long ago and far away in a different age
When I was a dumb young guy
Fossilized photos of my life then
Illustrate what an easy prey I must have been
Standing in the sun, idiot savant
Something like a monument
I'm a dinosaur, somebody is digging my bones

Ignorance has alway been something I excel in
Followed by naivete and pride
Doesn't take a scientist to see how
Any clever predator could have a piece of me
Standing in the sun, idiot savant
Something like a monument
I'm a dinosaur, somebody is digging my bones

When I look back on the past
It's a wonder I'm not yet extinct
All the mistakes and bad judgements I made
Nearly pushed me to the brink
It doesn't pay to be too nice
It's the one thing I have learned
Still, I made my fossil bed
Now I toss and turn

I'm a dinosaur, somebody is digging my bones
I'm a dinosaur...

***

Again, I bet even a basic song like this will whiz right past your head; because from what I see, Mr. Clueless is quite ignorant as far as subcontexts go...
