Our definitions of music types differ apparently.
I would define cinematic music as music written to go with a movie, as in background or soundtrack music to a movie.
Motion music is music I define as instilling the feeling of a moving object, such as a vehicle, or as Oto said, some plywood. When moving persons come to mind, its usually like a fight sequence.
But, once again, people have different ways of thinking.
And I could bring back the whole subject of musical tastes.... (but it might scare someone off, like Set Abominae)
cinematic
adj : of or pertaining to or characteristic of the cinema
and when they mean cinema, its not just films. see, your talking about syncronizing motion, dialoge, lighting, mood (am i forgetting anything?) with music. basicly, your puting together sound and image on a screen (wether its a TV screen, a big movie screen, or your computer screen). where else can you do that but cinema? ONLY cinema has this characteristic. and when i mean cinema, i mean, anything like that. not just movies. AMV's are BASED on this characteristic!! its not just a term you define yourself.
this is THE definition.
side note: i'd award you the nick name blue balls, but i think half the people here can answer to that.
but all in all, at least you said you agree that theres no genre thats above critacism. this bashing thing is getting tired.
practice what you preach, kid.Its just pointless to go off and say 'Rap is gay!'.. it's fucking immature and stupid.
here's another side note: you dont have to tell me about black kids who listen to metal, or white posers who listen to rap. i've seen white rude boys and black skin heads (and asains too). dont get overly defensive, im not calling you a racist. if i thought you were i wouldnt be so subtle. although i COULD go down the race route...... no no, not that kinda forum.
as much as rock is. dipshit.you do realize that rap is pop dont you?
there's something im noticing alot, though, in this thread. people are saying two things that contradict each other (and often in the same post):
1) rap is not my music and i have a right to think that.
and 2) rap is inferior to rock b/c it doesn not have the things I value in music, and we all know, there are only one set of values for music.
hiding behind your right to an opinion then bashing some one elses. its not like your saying something as inocent as "rap just isnt my music". your saying its shit. as in beneath you and beneath the music you choose.
values and morals are all relative. i hear alot of people calling rap repetative. the reason why people call it repetative is because, as me and vlad have dubed it, its motion music! lets think about this. how repetative is techno? (seems theres quite a few techno fans, here). disco? 3 count waltz? the thing about dancing music is that the tension levels stay around the same. unlike rock, were maybe youll palm mute on the verses and bust out with some hard and fast strumming on the chorus.
taeli: you should post some public enemy. THEY'RE a group i respect. great lyrics great agression.

What about Oto's flying plywood!?
The definition of cinematic that is.DDramone wrote: this is THE definition.
Words can change meaning on you when you tack something on the end.
And even if it is aimed at music, that would be music of, pertaining to, or characteristic of the cinema.
In other words, the soundtrack.
Or, instead of cinema, we could call it "motion picture media"
If I knew what blue balls ment, I might actually care.DDramone wrote: side note: i'd award you the nick name blue balls, but i think half the people here can answer to that.

Oh come on, really, let's not argue about things like that!
I mean... arguing about how a person 'sees' or 'feels' music is stupid, because you can't possibly validate that you're right and he/she is wrong. There's a good chance everyone listens to it differently; so let's not limit the useful adjectives here.
If I see music as a cosmic voyage to seven states of altered consciousness, while it means I'm a damn hippie, doesn't mean I'm wrong in describing it that way

The Birds are using humanity in order to throw something terrifying at this green pig. And then what happens to us all later, that’s simply not important to them…

My Opinion: Rap is shit. Reality: Rap does not take as much skill as Rock. Rhyming and talking fast is not as hard as playing an insturment. Secondly.. why is it "Black Kids" and "White Posers?"DDramone wrote:practice what you preach, kid. here's another side note: you dont have to tell me about black kids who listen to metal, or white posers who listen to rap.Its just pointless to go off and say 'Rap is gay!'.. it's fucking immature and stupid.
Like I said, show me ANY rapper with the technical skill of Dream Theater, and I will shut up on the subject forever. You CAN'T. This is not my opinion, this is musical FACT.2) rap is inferior to rock b/c it doesn not have the things I value in music, and we all know, there are only one set of values for music.

And about the particular lead singers in a rock group who don't sing? I dont think just because someone plays an instrument makes that particular person better than another just because they put more effort, or it's more hard.nailz1000 wrote:My Opinion: Rap is shit.
