Update your web browser (if using FF 3.5, IE 7, or Safari 3)

Post by Corran » Fri Jun 03, 2011 11:32 am

Google is dropping support for these browsers in gmail and a number of other products in a push for consistent HTML 5 browser support.

Also, Mozilla themselves are a bit frustrated that people are still using their 3.5 browser.
https://wiki.mozilla.org/Releases/3.5_EOL
We need a plan to obsolete Firefox 3.5 as we can't support it into perpetuity. We have been frustrated with our efforts to move users off of old releases and are worried too many people do not upgrade and are on vulnerable and unsupported versions of Firefox.
Update links
Internet Explorer | Firefox | Safari | Chrome

Opera is not mentioned... here is a link anyways. http://www.opera.com/

Consistent browser rendering makes web developers happy. Help move the internet forward, or at the very least protect yourself from browser vulnerabilities that your browser vendor has long since patched in their newer releases.

Heh, good luck to them. Microsoft's been trying to get people off of IE6 for years now and they've still got quite a way to go.

(I actually just upgraded the Firefox install on my Windows 7 machine to 4.0.1 about 10 minutes ago.)

I'm not sure what version i had before, but it didn't have that 'firefox' tab. I don't like that i have to click the 'firefox' tab, then pick what i want to do. I preferred having the options across the top.

There was a major release between 3.5 and the newest version that didn't dramatically alter the user interface...

You mean like this?

From the Firefox tab, hover over "Options" and click "Menu Bar"

Works fine for me:

Of course, "sucks balls" is hardly an actionable criticism. Good thing you don't do UI design.

To further drive that point home:

Really, the only substantial difference there is what order the Stop, Home, and Reload buttons are in.
