Do your musical tastes ever change?

Post by CaTaClYsM » Sat Dec 06, 2003 4:48 pm

I just asking, when I was in my early teens I was into loud music and the like, but my tastes seem to have changed, now I'm buying stuff like E.S. Posthumus, Halo OST, and I'm eying the CC and Last Exile OST. Pretty different from Nirvanah and Orgy. :?

I remember when i was a little kid i really liked beethoven ... my parents bought me a double cd (which i still have and listen to) that i listened to for such a long time. Then i started liking Rush and Queen through out grades 6-7 and i lsitened to the same 4 CD's that whole time. Then in grade 8 i decided to stop trying to be different and got into dance and hip hop like every one else in my shit hole elementry school. Then i went to high school and met more people who liked music more like what i used to listen to.

So half way through grade 9 i ended up making a total transition over towards general rock, and then i started to like anything hard and loud untill about 3/4 of the way through grade 11. Then i started calming down and listening to a greater variety of music. Now i listen to a lot of stuff ... MSI to beethoven, Prodigy to king crimson ... just as long as it isn't dance, R&B, rap or hip hop i don't mind.

I don't think they really change, but they do adjust and evolve. I still listen to music for the same reasons, except now I've formulated these tastes better and found sorts of music that match them better.

Basically, I used to be primarily a classic rock listener a few years ago, but now I simply drifted over into progressive/minimalist/weird rock/pop/metal whatever as the general area.

Actually, I exhibit a very strange tendency. I always got really attached to music I liked, so much that I had trouble switching to anything else. It wasn't as much of a problem when I still wasn't 100% sure what I was looking for a few years back. Now, since I've discovered and carefully listened through King Crimson, this became scary. I seriously have trouble dropping it and related music, because I'm sure (in fact, I know, in the most objective sense possible) that I won't find anything that suits me better musically.

However, I've picked up a few fresh interests along the way, and knowing how long-time King Crimson fans usually do so, I'll probably keep adding to and expanding my listening range. But change? Unlikely. I for one am convinced I found me a music for life.

When I was little I grew up on Buddy Holly and ABBA and Gordon Lightfoot. Then I just stopped listening to music altogether until grade 8, then I got into the Cure, and eventually listen ot hard rock/metal stations so forth up until the point I am at now, where I like classical/semi-classical type music. Accounstic guitars, violin, cello, piano type stuff.

Lately I've been listening to a lot of Jazz mostly Miles Davis, Charlie Parker, and John Coltran. I still like Punk, Alternative, and other rock genres but I have expanded my musical tastes in recent years.

Weekly. Sometimes daily.

Really. There's such good music in every genre being made everyday that if I stood still I'd miss something else.

For me it's not that my taste in music changes but it's that I listen to a lot of different things and I'm open to listening to different types of music. But my taste hasn't really change a lot since I've been a kid. Yeah when I was small I HAD to listen to every single opera there was but now I listen to everything (except rap/hip hop)

Best. Cd. Purchase. Evar.
I love the Halo OST. Part of Halo's success I think should be attributed to the music, it's that good. A video game with a movie score quality soundtrack. Btw, the Bungie store is now offering the Halo OST packaged with a bonus dvd that includes Halo 2 trailers and footage, as well as select tracks remastered in 5.1 surround.

Also good choices for Anime OSts are Hellsing, Outlaw Star, Cowboy Bebop, and Big O.

I still listen to Orgy......they're still cool aren't they?
I'm currently waiting for their third album due out Feb. 24th.

And to keep on topic, I started getting into music till like 7th grade. Stuff I listened to back then was Offspring, Queen, and various other stuff. Then, after that I lost some interest. Now, most people may egg on me for this, but I didn't truly get in to music till I got the first Linkin park album. Granted I've expanded my collection since then, but I still like Linkin Park, and the various other music I grew up listening to.

I think that OSTs in general are underrated, people think the movies are cool without stopping to think that the music setting to mood for the scene is 90% of what's making the scene they watch so cool. This goes for US material as much as Japanese.

But I digress...

When I was 16-18 or so, I loved pop. I loved me some pop music.

Now I'm 21, and I can listen to almost anything but pop.

Took me long enough.

If I HAD to classify my music tastes now, I'd say I'm a combination of indie, ska, folk, and prog metal.
