Underrated Film Scores and Sound tracks
I don't think there's been a topic on this subject for a while...if at all. So I guess now is better time than any.
Is there any film scores or soundtracks that you love, yet there's usually not much mention on them due to the films lack of success or the fact that it was drowned out by more popular or successful films.
Well here's you're time to let it shine in the spotlight.
I'll begin with a few film scores that I ran across.
I'll begin with what Howard Shore did before he got the LotR music fame. The score to the 80's remake of "The Fly". Surprising enough, Shore's sound hasn't changed much since this movie, which is probably a good thing that he stuck with it. Being that I loved this movie as a kid, I set out to find the ost. It's kinda hard to come by actually, due to it's age and lack of popularity. I've ran across some mp3's, but most didn't do the music justic. I don't think there's often enough, science fiction horror films that actually have that good enough of a score to back it up.
Saying that I now come to another horror film that bombed compared to it's predicessors, Alien 3. Though it was an okay film, it left a lot of the first 2 films to seem rather pointless. The score was composed by Elliot Goldenthal, who worked on other scores for movies like Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within (Very good score), Titus (Great, and more diverse score), Batman Forever, and Batman Returns. Alien 3 had all the signs of Elliot's more known style of loud brass and overall heavy tone. All of which did great and making this one of my fav scores.
For the next score we go to Red Planet. I think me and maybe .0023% of this world's population liked this film. Graeme Revell put together this films soundtrack along with Emma Shapplin (an Italian (I think) opera singer who's music is much like Sarah Brightman's), Melissa Kaplan, and with a little help from William Orbit I believe. All brought together, they did great work, but the stuff with Revell and Shapplin made this soundtrack really shine.
However as great as the soundtrack was, the 2000 release left out ALOT of the film's score by Revell, for reasons I dunno, but I have been trying to find out exactly why. A lot of Revell's fans or fans of the film's score are still asking to this day what the hell happened to some of the more desired, and overall best pieces of music in the film, that never showed up on the soundtrack.
Well that's all I can think off the top of my head. Feel free to add what you like, and please try keep it to the lesser known scores.

The Deep Rising soundtrack.
The movie may have been only average, but the music was quite enjoyable.
Starship Troopers.
OK, Klendathu Drop is probably one of the best instrumental tracks I've heard. The cd is worth its price for this track alone.
Robo Cop.
Also scored by the same guy who did Starship Troopers. Once again excellent music, especially the main theme music.
Halo
The game was incredible, but I wonder how many people bought the incredible music score on cd?
I'd have to say this is one of the best soundtracks ever.
Sonic Adventure 2 OST (import)
This is another game OST, not as good as Halo, but still quite enjoyable, and tons of tracks (about 60)
Sonic CD OST (U.S. Ver.)
I love this music, but no one else seems to. Also, it's difficult to find. Either get it off the game CD or scour the internet for the mp3s.
Terminator CD OST
yet another game from the Sega Cd days. Great music, and once again, your best bet is to scour the internet for mp3s or Oggs.

You know I forgot about those two, indeed Klendathu Drop is a good track.Vlad86 wrote:The Deep Rising soundtrack.

Shadow Hearts OST. (It's a game)
But I have to give a load off to my favorite band.
kidneythieves
And dj encore feat engelina
They're like evanesence, but older and better. And more techno-y.

That's who I was thinking of. Alan Parson's Project. But there was a soundtrack that Tangerine Dream did that I really liked... crap. Wish I could remember.CliffD wrote:Nope, Andrew Powell and Alan Parsons. But I DO agree with you -- Good tunes.flint_the_dwarf wrote:Ladyhawke. Tangerine Dream did the soundtrack for the US release of "Legend" with the song "Loved by the Sun". As much as I liked it, I pine to see the original Euro version of Legend, which had a more serious sound and it didn't have scenes cut from it.flint_the_dwarf wrote:That's who I was thinking of.
