At Anime Boston 2003 someone used the original score from "The Goonies" . The song changed several different times and was like 12 minutes long (ok .. so it felt like 12 minutes).
never again.

Cacophony - Burn the Ground
Well, I mean, unless you're trying to be mock-pretentious or something...
Cher - Believe
Do you believe, if push comes to shove,
I can drive you crazy if I sing the words to this song long enough?
Weird Al Yankovic - Yoda
You cannot do it; you cannot make this into a worthwhile AMV. It's a fun song, but making a decent AMV from it is artistically impossible.
Anything from another anime.
The song already goes to an anime! Anyone who's watched that anime won't be able to forget that anime when watching any AMV of yours that uses it.
Any instrumental for a movie
Same basic theory: if people composed it for a movie, how's anyone going to be able to forget the movie and pay attention to the anime when watching your video? Exception: songs that originated somewhere else, such as the Clockwork Orange score (classic composers played on modern instruments) and music from The Sting (orchestrated Scott Joplin). Also, if they didn't actually use the instrumental in the movie, maybe no one will know the difference. (I don't recall hearing Rachel's Song in Blade Runner, although it's on the soundtrack CD.)

Actually, I've seen this done a few times, and sometimes it was pulled off really well. Also, an anime song doesn't even have to be used for another anime. It could be used for a live action movie or clips from a video game.Rorschach wrote:Anything from another anime.

Yes, I know it's been done. I just don't think it should. Heck, Call Me Call Me by the Seatbelts is one of the greatest songs I've ever heard. It's just that all I can think about when I hear it is the way it was used in Cowboy Bebop: kind of hard to top that.DTJB wrote: Actually, I've seen this done a few times, and sometimes it was pulled off really well. If the song wasn't originally written for the anime, then it's usually good for a lot of things, but when it's for the anime, nothing else is likely to fit it so well. Some songs are so terrible that they shouldn't be used for anything, but I'm saying this song is actually too GOOD to go with anything else. Using it elsewhere seems to cheapen it.

I have actually seen a "total eclipse of the heart" amv it was to inuyasha and not half bad. um, i will agree to the not using anime music in a different anime unless it wasn't written for the anime first.
by the way Gregorian chants CAN be used in making a good AMV i found one on kazaa almost a year ago. it was kenshin and it was very dramatic, it flowed well and it worked with the music. I thjink it really has to do with what music you like and/or what you associate music to.
I do beleive though that RAP SHOULD NEVER BE USED IN AN AMV. the only one which was good that had it to rap was by scintilla his dueling videos one. and that was only good because it also included another song which wasn't rap (i think it was by Queen). well i voiced my opinion so back to watching AMVs.
