Anime References in North American/European Music

Post by Jimmy Balls-O-Steel » Sun Jul 25, 2004 6:04 pm

Just out of sheer randomness, I ended up stumbling across a band called Curl Up And Die while surfing the 'net on Friday night. On their EP ...But The Past Ain't Through With Us there is a song called "God Is In His Heaven, All Is Right With The World." Being an Eva fan, I recognised that line right away, yet I also knew that the phrase was originally a line from a really old song/poem that many pastors and priests quote during their sermons. (Whenever I do a Google search for that phrase, all I get are Eva fan sites.)

I went to Dark Lyrics to check out the lyrics to that song, and lo and behold, it contains the following line (which I now use for my sig):
Curl Up And Die wrote:Sometimes I just want to pilot a giant robot, spending days that only exist in my head.
Apparently one or more of the members are comic book geeks. A lot of comic books geeks I know are at least somewhat familiar with anime beyond what's on TV.

I think that it's safe to assume that this is meant to be an Eva reference.

What are some anime references you've come across in music from the Western Hemisphere?[/url]

None. Ever.

Although, that first quotation is from Robert Browning's Pippa's Song.

The year's at the spring,
And day's at the morn;
Morning's at seven;
The hill-side's dew-pearl'd;
The lark's on the wing;
The snail's on the thorn;
God's in His heaven--
All's right with the world!

There's that one Chingy (stupid rapper!) song where he says something like "Let's connect like Voltron!" I almost fell out of my chair laughing at that line.
Life's short.
eBayhard.

Get into my Sailor Moon, cause that cartoon has got the boom - Barenaked Ladies

Hardly thought provoking, but the only thing I could think of at the time of this post!

in the music video of "Somewhere I Belong" ( :roll: yeah, yeah i know its linkin park, bear with me here) there are a couple of shots of a collection of Gundam action figures. i don't know whether that counts, but...

on a related note, if i ever get in a band, i will be sure and put some anime references in our songs.
"Louis Wu, I found your challenge verbose. In challenging a kzin, a simple scream of rage is sufficient. You scream and you leap."

this probably doesn't count.......

I don't much care for their music, though there are a lot of other excellent bands (Root, Cales, Memoria, etc) on RedBlack. Still, it's cool to be able to ask: why aren't there any Anime music videos on animemusicvideos.org?

:roll:
