Post by Iced Earth Fan » Tue Aug 10, 2004 2:13 am

It's simple, just name the top four longest songs you have ever heard of. Here's my list:

1. 32 minuets: Gettysburg from Iced Earth.
2. 16 minuets: Dante's Inferno from Iced Earth
3. 14 minuets: And Then There Was Silence by Blind Guardian
4. 9 minuets: Damien from Iced Earth

George Gershwin--Rhapsody in Blue. 16:27.

Iron Butterfly did a song called something like "Enna Godda Davida" (something to that effect) back in the late '60s or '70s. It's been years since I listened to the song last (praise all things holy) but I remember it being something like 15 minutes long.

Wagner's Die Ring is about 14 hours, depending on how long the conductor holds some of the musical transition sections so the scenes can be changed. But that's an opera...it has intermissions and stuff (usually, it's performed over two to four days).

Well, all albums should be cohesive musical works anyway.

I think the only thing that qualifies are stand-alone tracks and such - something that would be a single track on the CD, anyway.

Hrm. That's true. Die Ring is in four parts. The final part, Gotterdammerung ("Twilight of the Gods," I apologize for the spelling) is 4-6 hours by itself, with no breaks in music. So that would have to be the longest song I've heard, followed by the other three parts (Das Rheingold, Die Walkure, and Siegfried)

In-a-Gadda-Da-Vita is 23 minutes long, at least the version I have on cassette tape is. That would be the longest non-operatic song Ive heard. Some of Aphex Twin's songs are around 12 minutes long as well.

Err, Der Ring, or more fully, Der Ring Des Niebelugen. Darn gender-sensitive articles....:)
