You want something heavy, try Dir en grey, X JAPAN, and Pierrot.

L'Arc~en~Ciel is around the moderate level, say around Creed-ish.

There's Move which is a bit like Linkin Park but with a female vocalist. (well ... since their Deep Calm album anyway)

In the JPop, it's a pretty big selection but Ayumi is a household name. There's Utada Hikaru also. I'm sure there's a bajillion more but some artists in Japan start with anime OPs and EDs and eventually branch out to other albums there.
Yeah ... I use a Mac ... it works and I like it.

Ghost, Merzbow, Acid Mother Temple, The Mops, Overhang Party, OOIOO and The Boredoms can all be found fairly easy stateside.

Lostage, Boris, Winter Streamline, Cutgrass, Journal Spy Effort, Futaba, Syrup16g, fahners witch, TAR23, Kiwiroll, Holstein and Hoover's Oover may be a bit harder to get, but are worth it.

I write this often enough to think it should get stickied...

I've always liked L'arc~en~ciel and HYDE's solo work ^_^ I like a few LUNA SEA songs. I think LUNA SEA are very album type songs, they have quite long songs, but still good ^^

I really like these songs:

L'arc~en~ciel - kasou
HYDE - the other side
LUNA SEA - in my dream
