I just heard maroon 5 woman, i like the beat and the lyrics, seeing its a spider man 2 song i figured it fit the situational romance of mary jane and peter parker.
blah, i just wouldn't know the actual, genere it lies in. maybe pop?

you could call them adult alternative
which isn't really alternative but more pop, or soft rock.

Or Album-Oriented Rock, but I think AOR has been 'morphed' into Adult Alternative or Adult Contemporary or something. I'd stick with pop/rock, I think.
Remember when "alternative" referred to the new wave of punk coming from the Pacific Northwest, and there were these bands that never showered who were "seminal" and "vital," like Screaming Trees and Mudhoney? Now the word doesn't mean a damn thing anymore.
