Heavy Metal Mozart

Post by EmilLang1000 » Fri Oct 07, 2005 7:07 am

I'm trying to put together a mix CD of classical music with metal involved, or modern rock songs with a classical feel. So far, this is what I have:

O Fortuna - Opera Babes
Adiemus - Enya
Requiem for a Tower - LOTR: The Two Towers
Das Tier in Mir - E-Nomine
Requiem (the Fifth) - Trans-Siberian Orchestra
Lacrimosa (Full) - Immediate Music
Das Rad des Schicksals - E-Nomine
Christmas at Sarajevo - Trans-Siberian Orchestra

Any suggestions of anything else of the like?

Proud to be a Jenova's Witness - WWSD (What Would Sephiroth Do?)

Therion has a version of O Fortuna, perhaps you might check that out...

now as for the 'modern rock songs with a classical feel' category...that could mean every song on the winamp playlist so I do not really want to attempt that this morning...

I like the cd idea though, I am going to steal it now..

Oh how convenient. A theory about God that doesn't require looking through a telescope.

Apocalyptica are a German String Trio who have some really amazing Metallica covers. If you are looking for any metal put to classical that might be worth a listen. Also there is S&M by Metallica if you are looking for any Metal and Orchestral together. It isn't just Metallica tunes thre are some great instrumentals in there.

In the HMV where I live there are string quartet tribute CDs to bands like, mudvayne, NIN, I think theres a Linkin Park one, a Korn one maybe, Im pretty sure theres a Disturbed one. Theres a whole string tribute section. I never actually bought any because I didnt know what to think. Like I mean, "Dig" on a cello? I wasnt sure what that was gunna come out to sound like.

Im kind of a cheapy so I dont buy anything I think might be interesting incase I dont like it until I get some reviews. Like this, people actually like the orchestral covers, it does sound damn cool, but again, cheeeeeep

Apocalyptica are from Finland. They're just really popular here. And the instrumentals on S&M, with the exception of "Ecstasy of Gold", on which the band does not appear, were all originally written by Metallica.

Apocalyptica distinguished themselves from the pack of miscellaneous string tributes that was to follow them by releasing a second album in 1998 which included covers of bands besides Metallica as well as a couple original numbers. I'm not absolutely certain, but I believe that their current record is all originals.

ontopic:
The limited version of Dimmu Borgir's Death Cult Armaggedon has orchestral-only versions of "Progenies of the Great Apocalypse" and "Eradication Instincts Defined". It might also be worth looking into the German Mittelalter-rock (literally, medieval rock) scene, though the styles added in are usually folkic and seldom get more recent than Baroque.

Shin Hatsubai is a Premiere-free studio. Insomni-Ack is habitually worthless.
CHOPWORK - abominations of maceration
skywide, armspread : forward, upward
Coelem - Tenebral Presence single now freely available

 DUDE! I wanna hear that!!! I'm sure that The LE is sold out by now...

Anyhow, my biggest reccomendations would have to be Metallica's S&M, ANYTHING from Trans-Siberian Orchestra, and Appocalyptica.[/b]

Try almsot any Therion song since Theli, they are the most classical influenced rock/metal band there is, they started the whole symphonic/operatic metal thing.

Also nightwish's Ghost Love Score
I'd rather be at a Blind Guardian concert.
