Replacing colors

Post by Daniel_BMS » Sun Sep 27, 2009 12:05 am

Is it possible to sample a color and replace it with black? Say transform all certain shades of beige into black. What program do I need to do this?

Many programs will enable you to do this. Whatever it is, it'll need the chroma keyer effect, which is easy to use and manipulate in Sony Vegas. What you'll need are two layers- on the top, your video and just below that a solid black color (yeah, if you leave all the tracks below that empty it'll be black anyways, but it's safer this way). Add chroma keyer to the top track and get a sample of the color you want to remove. Play around with the settings a bit, and see where it looks best.

So there is no way to ink drop sample a color and tell a video editing program to replace it with black?

No, that's basically exactly what mastamind said.

The effect you're looking for is called "chroma keyer" Though there's some settings you'll want to mess with to make it look right, that's the gist of it.

Oh good a program does have this feature. Many Adobe Premiere's have this feature. Adobe Premiere 6 is the earliest 1 I know of.
