Since no one ever seems to know how to use compositing modes here are some screenshots.
I used subtract, it seemed to be the one that looked most like the video. But as you can see, you can try others like add or dodge.. ect. and see which one gives you the look you want.
That video does seem to use a lot of effects from particle illusions so I doubt they used solid colors, but it's the same idea.
