Black Bars--

Post by gogo76 » Wed Jan 21, 2009 1:39 pm

I`d like to know how people make the ``black bars`` around their cropped or panned clips, like found in the video Euphoria or Phenomenon in some times.

Example: [img][/img]

Ty for any help in advance
Ps: I dont mind in which program you tell me to do it in, but, most preferably, Sony Vegas or After Effects.

There is several ways to make that on sony Vegas, you can create using a black solid and then in Pan/Crop create a bar. Or just go to the image, right click, Event Pan/Crop like this = D

If you're referring to strictly top and bottom that would be called "letter boxing".

Yeah I know what you mean, you have to create the bars....

If you want that all the video have that black bar...is the first option that I told you just create a solid black color on top of all the layers and into that solid just create a bar for that go to Event Pan/Crop...

Masking a precomp would work too.

There's actually a really easy way of doing this.

Right click and 'insert empty event'

Image

Stretch out the empty even to the full length of your song or however long you want the bars to be there for (I already put the bars in that pic)

Image

Put the cookie cutter effect into the empty event and set it to square with a black border (for black lines)
(put up the Repeat Y to make it just lines) and use the size and position to set it just how you want it.

Image

Use keyframes to change the position to where ever you want it to be throughout your video. Because it's one single media even you can make it flow as smoothly or sharply as you want. You can also set it to nothing when you don't want it ....ect. using the keyframes.

I think this is what you are trying to do. Pretty simple right

^^agreed. masking takes precision though so it's more flexible. but cookie cutter works out for convenience.
