I usually print out each of the frames of the character I want and the background, take some scissors and cut out the character, and glue them to the background, and scan it back in. Works pretty well. Maybe I'll record a tutorial about it for AMV101.

It's actually neither when on or off, it's much trickier than that...nor is it f1 that you have to press.
