Well, the other day I tried to mask a clip and by the time I was done it looked like this.
(Yeah, I save all my masked clips with a green background so I can use 'em again XD)
Does anyone have any advice on how to make masks better (i.e. without having to blur out the rough edges)?

Place the vertexes on just the limits of the various curves and make the various lines beziers instead of straight. That way you'll be able to follow the contours tightly and smoothly.
Also, you could save the images on alpha backgrounds if you want to use them again - that's a much better solution than using a green background to be chroma keyed.

In addition to what Mirko said, I would try to get in closer and feather it in a bit. I typically to to get about of the outline, then I usually use .7 feather in as a starting point, and give or take as needed. I currently only use vegas for my amvs, so i'm not sure if you can use that method in other programs.
