But sometimes I feel that there is nothing more then a difference of styles and I cannot honestly say that one is better then the other, that is why i comment more on the technical end. There's nothing wrong with getting a new member's opinion - I'm more for people telling me what they liked/disliked than getting technical pointers, anyway.
When ever in doubt about getting a bad review remember these words; Shut up and make it better.

True, but you can still let a person know what appealed to you, or didn't. And even technical things like timing can be a matter of opinion if you don't like brainfreezes caused by impulsive clip changes, or if you fall asleep if a clip lasts for more than 2.3 seconds. I wouldn't rate 'better or worse' on style issues, either, but you can still point out where the editing style bothers you. That's all I meant - you don't have to have edited for years to say if it just looked 'off' to you, or that you hated it. I don't think people should count off for style in th scoring, but I like to hear when there are style differences - it's just nice input. ^_^Sporkmaster wrote:But sometimes I feel that there is nothing more then a difference of styles and I cannot honestly say that one is better then the other, that is why i comment more on the technical end.

Also what you have to realize is that all opinions are subjective, and there are no set rules of editing that cannot be broken in such a way that can be innovative and successful in one situation, while a failure in another, and you might have two people who would diverge in the opinion on whether it was successful or not. The trick of a good opinion is to be honest of what you thought about what you saw, and telling the person how, if it was up to you, you would try to help improve the video. It is up to them to decide if the video needs those improvements or not. That also goes with being honest if the video was your cup of tea or not.
All people have different tastes and different ways of doing things, and it helps to know if someone appreciates artistically what you have done. For myself, I like a mixture of both technical advice, and honest reaction to what I have tried to do. I want to know if there are some technical difficulties I need to address as well as if I succeeded in touching the viewer in the ways I intended artistically. Both the technical and artistic aspects are important to a success of a video. You can have a technically flawless video that has no soul, or a video that has a lot of soul, but fails technically. Both need to be commented on in a fair and balanced way.
In the end, as a reviewer, differences in artistic approaches can be helpful if you are honest about your opinions. For example, Omni is someone who enjoys more energetic lively videos, while I am often slow and methodical in my videos, but he was honest when he reviewed my "Better Be Home" video and said strait out that this isn't usually his cup of tea, and gave his opinions about what he saw, and what he thought about it which helps me see how other people may react to the video I made. Sometimes this difference in style can bring up either potential problems we don't see ourselves because we look at our videos in one way, and getting someone else’s view can open up another aspect we hadn't even thought of.
But when it all boils down to it, either technically or artistically speaking, opinions are just that, someone’s opinions, and I just hope they are honest ones.
If my honest opinion about honest opinions that I have just stated above have offended anyone, then good. It is honest and biased, as any good opinion should be.

Omni? Why is it I always forget to review your vids. I think it is because they are always so great that I am stunned at how good they are, and then forget to review them. Well, my latest review is up.
I leave it up to you what you want to do with mine. I suggest checking out Requiem for a Vampire. People seem to like it. If you want to punish me for my delay in getting your review up, I understand.
