Review exchange

Post by Gothakane » Sun Feb 16, 2003 7:49 pm

Hey I just released my first AMV and it'd be great to get some opinions so I know how to improve on my next vid. The song is Iced Earth's tribute to Blue Oyster Cult's "Burnin' for you", and its set to project A-Ko.

I'll happily review anyone else's vids in return :D

 Burnin' for you

Ja na.

Reviewed ^_^

You can do either of these two:

"Best of Squaresoft" - FF7, FF9, Chrono Cross

"What God Has Sent" - FF7

"Best of Squaresoft" has less reviews, so I'd prefer if you did that one. However, the host it's on isn't the most reliable. If the direct links are giving you problems, you may have to resort to FilePlanet (the indirect link) if you really want to see it.

"What God Has Sent" is my first vid. It has more reviews, but a couple of those reviews are for the crappy version I published first, hence lowering the average scores. I recently remastered it, so you'll be seeing the new version if you decide to do that one.

Well, happy downloading!

Sure, though I gotta tell ya, I can't review the Best of Squaresoft vid, I'm still playing FF9 (I'm lazy, playing it on and off, currently at the end of Disc 3) so I don't want any spoilers, and I don't wanna look back on it till its done so sorry but I'll have to review "What God has Sent". Downloading it now, and your host is so damn slow  Only 10-15k/s, and I got university in the mornin so I'll review it tomorrow after I get home as I need the sleep. I'm looking forward to seeing this vid cause I'm a fan of Savatage, and FF7 has always been my favourite game, I normally don't watch FF7 AMV's cause I think no one could do it justice, I hope you can change that opinion, plus my sister Tacooe knows you and says you've done some good stuff so thats a plus ;)

ja na!

More opinion exchanges welcome :)

Well hi there, Tacooe's sister! Nice to meet ya!

LOL! You took the words right off my keyboard! Here's the old write-up I used to have on the vid info page. It still applies, as the only aim of the remastering was to fix the capture, sound, and black bar distraction (as much as possible):

Description: I've noticed a rather severe lack of Final Fantasy VII videos that actually took the game seriously, and didn't just capitalize on the action sequences. Hell, I find it rare that anyone took this game seriously, and it's a crying shame. This was the MOTHER of all PSX Final Fantasies, and I believed it deserving of an AMV that can kick as much ass as the game did.

I used a PSX ripper to extract the FMVs straight off the game. Since then I realized just how much streaming video was in there. A lot. But not as much as...say...a full 26-episode series like Evangelion. Therefore, I had to depend not on variety of footage, but innovative editing. The greatest challenge was doing unique things with the sound, and fitting the clips to the lyrics. I actually went so far as to draw fan art specifically for the video. You'll see it in two of the three flashes near the middle. What I strove for more than anything else in this video was emotion. The game was an emotional rollercoaster, and I don't think it's possible to capture it completely in a little over 4 minutes.

I think the reason why Final Fantasy VII isn't such a big hit in the AMV community for dramatic purposes is because the graphics date the game. Besides paying tribute to this beautifully crafted story, the other thing I wanted to do with this game on this scale was come out and make a statement. That just because the FMVs of Final Fantasy VII weren't as high tech as its other PlayStation partners, that doesn't make it any less of a game, or any less deserving of a great AMV. I sincerely hope you've had as much fun viewing this video as I've had making it.

Note: Special thanks to VicBond007 for exposing me to Savatage through his Evangelion video.
