Interesting VCA Metrics - now with some actual data
I know we're still a ways from being done, but I figured I'd start a thread about collecting some metrics. You can read into these however you want - I'm just a data fetishist I guess. If any mods/admins could chime in about the ability to do DB queries for such things it'd be a great help for when everything's said and done. It'd be great if they could be done post-contest to compare the data sets and analyze them some especially the ones that are supposed to be saying the same thing.
Semi-final round
-----------
Categories for videos (not editors) = 23
Total # of slots for video nominations = 460
# of unique videos = 209
% unique videos = 45.4%
# of unique editors = 136
% unique editors = 29.6%
Final round
-----------
Categories for videos (not editors) = 23
Total # of slots for video nominations = 115
# of unique videos = 56
% unique videos = 48.7%
# of unique editors = 48
% unique editors = 41.7%
End Results
-----------
Categories for videos (not editors) = 23
Total # of slots for video nominations = 23
# of unique videos = 13
% unique videos = 56.5%
# of unique editors = 10
% unique editors = 43.5%
Category Specific
--------------
Avg star-scale rating of this year vs last year for "most improved" finalists
Avg star-scale rating for "rookie of the year" finalists
Star-scale and OP ratings for video of the year finalists
General
----------
Total # of people that voted in each round
Voters per day (total, by %, or however it's best displayed)
Anything else that anyone can think of? Have I been collecting metrics too much at work?
EDIT:
I know it's a bit late to ask for this year... how about IP ranges votes came from? We could form a map or some shit.

Re: Interesting VCA Metrics
I'm kinda interested in how many of he total amount of users that have voted aren't AMV-editors. And how many are Americans/Russian/rest of world.

Re: Interesting VCA Metrics
I think I'd be more interested in how many people who voted have never posted in the forums before.

# of Video that got nominated in 1 category
# of Video that got nominated in 2 categories
# of Video that got nominated in 3 categories
...
that could fit to your metrics stuff

Ah... I'm a bit skeptic. Of course if will be really interessting, but I'm afraid that this is a great feeding for dramaz and bias.

a surprising lack of stats for a stats thread

Re: Interesting VCA Metrics
I suppose that depends on your definition of "drama." I was under the impression "drama" was unsubstantiated whining about unfairness. Data like this could provide substantiation one way or another, no? It'd lessen the "drama" by turning it into "slander" and/or "legitimate gripes." If I was looking to cause shit i'd have included things like # of videos in "No Effects" that actually had effects in them, # of videos in "Best Parody" that aren't parodies, # of people in Most Helpful that don't even post here, etc. etc.Bauzi wrote:Ah... I'm in this for the data though. Hell... I keep month to month spreadsheets on my bandwidth usage going back to my join date cross-referenced with my donation totals. Maybe i'm just weird though.
Well... Needing access to the database to make queries like this is kinda a step 1 to getting the metrics. I'm sure some things can be counted now and could have been counted before in semis. Not the most interesting ones though.Haunter103 wrote:a surprising lack of stats for a stats thread
EDIT - I'm doing a counting on the finalists now... will update first post with numbers when i'm done.

Re: Interesting VCA Metrics - now with some actual data
Final results in... easy to add those. Will go back and fill in some more stuff when i have time. Anyone with DB access willing to write some queries so these all don't have to be figured out by hand?
EDIT - semi final round done too... those tables added into a spreadsheet and alpha sorted quite well.
As a general observance, I didn't realize how low those % would be. At least we broke 50% unique vids for the results, I guess...
