Help with video in vegas!

Well I needed to use an .avi video in Sony Vegas 6, but when I clicked to add it to the timeline, the video did not run smoothly at all, it kept jumping.

Well I checked out what the exact details of the video were on a program and it says that the video is:

Codec: XVID
Name: XviD 1.0.3

Just to say, im ONLY having problems with the video running slowly, not the audio.

Anyone know how to make the video run more smoothly, any help appreciated!

Open your video in Vdub via AVIsynth, then use lagarith or huffy codecs to render out clips u want.
