Raw does not mean without subtitles. It means ..Uncompressed and such. I'm just going to blatantly Assume you Downloaded this footage. which means ir'll more then likely be Encoded with Divx or whatever. I'll leave the rest of the links and stuff up to jadzia :O

.. 0_o

.. RAW video means that it has no Codec. If you look at your compression setting on your Export window you will see "settings". One of those setting for video compression say's RAW. They are rather large files, some people call it a Loss-Less Compression, but it is a Format that "ANY Editor" can use and "it will understand the Video."

.. most editors use this RAW format by "default". 8-) hehe, I wonder why ???

"RAWs" are generally considered to be video that has "no subtitles" at least by "fansub" standards...

I like to use the term "Uncompressed" or "Lossless" when dealing with the way post-it was using the term "RAW" as to keep the newbs from getting confused between the two... as "fansub raws" rarely are uncompressed. (I find them mostly in DIVX/XVID or WMV9 compressed - both of which are terrible for editing with on a PC)

I prefer using "lossless" source footage, as compressing with lagarith or huffyuv can save SOME file space, so it doesn't eat up my hard drive as much. Plus both codecs were pretty much made for editing..

and for the record on a PC: to get codec information right-click on the video file, and choose "properties" and click the tab that says "summery" it should be listed next to compression and if that doesn't work, get a program called GSpot and drop the file in it

...hmm

.. both Uncompressed and RAW mean the same thing to Video Editors.

RAW refers to many things; so do "Chairs" "Cars" "Trucks" "Home" .. it seems to me that, unless you can change Every Editor Ever Made from using the term "RAW," then this Conflict in terms must exist. :(

well I knew what you meant... but we arent talking about professional editors here, we are talking to a community that directly or indirectly deals with the "fansub" community.

if anything they SHOULDN'T be using fansubs or "DOWNLOADABLE raws" (as in terms of the fansub community a "raw" refers to the anime show before its been subtitled) and why I make a difference between saying "lossless" and "uncompressed" to "raw"

"raw" is an adjective so comparing it to nouns makes almost no sense..

"ugly" can also mean several different things, from various degrees of "ugly" to what one might consider ugly another might think is beautiful... as its a subjective adjective

a chair is a chair no matter what adjectives are attached to it... a car is a car no matter what adjectives are attached to it, when it comes down the the very basic description of the word its still is what it is... the definition of the word does not change.

the connotation of what a car is can mean several different things depending on who you talk to: for instance to an environmentalist a car is an evil pollutant that causes destruction on the earth's atmosphere and only selfish people continue to use them on a day to day basis... but a car to a working mother can be a life saver when it comes to running errands and getting kids to practices

either way I'm not here to debate the meaning of the word "raw" I'm just pointing out why there is a confusion: a "RAW" in terms of the anime/fansub community usually means an anime episode that has no subtitles (usually hard) encoded onto it.

Yea, I've always associated the term 'RAW(s)' with anime episodes shared over the internet by fansubbers and such that have no subtitles. I've never really seen it used to refer to uncompressed myself.

Ok, this problem always annoys me, and seeing how I am tired of working around it and failing, I might as well ask.

Ok, when I take a video, and try to Pan/Crop it to a smaller size, I have this problem where the vidoe does remain the cropped size, but in front of the clip, it remains big. Basically like this:

[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[]

The red is the time the clip is big, and the rest of the time, the clip is small. I cannot get rid of that little less than a second enlargement. I try altering the diamond things at the bottom, and I don't really know how they work, ut i worked around it moving things around before, so I never cared, but now, I really am getting annoyed with it. How can I make the clip from beginning to end to stay small?

Oh, and also, while i am at it, how do you add the effects to make the edges of the clip as if it exploded, or something...just the boarders. Having it in a square shape tends to take out of the video.

Thanks to all who give me input. :)
