How to create bubble effect in Vegas !!

Post by canikizu » Tue Nov 28, 2006 11:28 pm

I use vegas for awhile now and i wonder how to create the bubble effect in the Vegas. I try some other way but i found it is hard to create because i don't know how to creat a circle mask with Vegas.
And can anyone tell me how to create some small shining star, too.
The bubble and the star are like in the image :D

For circle masks use either
(1) Video FX - Cookie Cutter
(2) Generated Media - Color Gradient, use the oval half transparent preset and adjust the settings.

If you're using Vegas (not Vegas Movie Studio) you'll get better results working with a picture editor. I've used Ulead's PhotoImpact since it has a large number of particle effect presets for bubbles. There are also presets for stars of various shapes and in combinations (e.g. fireworks).

Other picture editing software will have similar features.

One technique is to create the bubble or star as a simple white shape in a still pic with a black background. This pic is used on the Vegas timeline as a mask over a color still - this allows you to adjust the color of the bubble with the Vegas preview window. You can also add a glow or shadow from the mask track's controls. (This technique can't be done with Movie Studio.)

Don't really understand much. I don't have Ulead PhotoImpact, i use Photoshop as picture editor, i will check it. :D

You mean that i need to create a picture with black background and bubble, then use FX choma keyer to eliminate black color ??

The chromakey will work, too. However, it tends to give a black tint to the bubbles. You can compensate for that by bumping up the "Low Threshold" slider on the chromakey effect control page. You can also experiment by creating the pic with a different background color than black.

That should be good enough to do what you want. The method I described just gives you more flexibility without having to keep creating different pictures with Photoshop or whatever (not that it's difficult to do so).

What I described falls under the topic of masking or compositing. It's a little much to describe here, but you can read about it. Select the Vegas help menu index and go to the topic called "Compositing Video".

I'm not sure, but Ladymercury's topic may cover this as well.
