I've never seen anything like Requiem From the Darkness.... Also titled Hundred Stories if your looking for amvs with it. Kai does a good job with them I thought.

Perfect Blue, Serial Experiments Lain, and Texhnolyze are all pretty unique although all are well known enough chances are you already saw them. Millennium Actress is lesser known but definately not the same old anime so you may wanna give that a shot. I've been told Wings Of Honneamise of good and fairly unique but last I checked it's not available in the US anymore.

I think the most original anime would be the one that can rip off every genre known to 'animekind'

with that in mind, let Maze Megaburst Space conquer every single anime cliche from now to eternity.

"Strength lies in action. Let the weak react to me..." - Kamahl, Pit Fighter from Magic: the Gathering
"That is a mistake many of my enemies make. They think before they act. I act before I think!" - Vortigern from Merlin ('98)
"I AM REBORN!" - Dark Schneider Bastard!! OAV

The artwork in Noein is fairly unique, and it has some bizarre sci-fi elements as well.

I don't know if it's all that unique... but not many anime's use the Seinfeld/ Office Space formula of a comedy about everyday life like
Android Ana Maico

it's like a 12x8 series (12 eps 8 mins each...) so you can easily watch it in one sitting. Also it's a fansub so look for it at your favorite fansub place (~ahem~anisuk...~ahem~).

Also I suggest the hentai, Futari Echi

I don't watch hentais, I just happened to watch this one, and to my suprise it's hardly perverse at all and more like a 'sex for dummies' coarse... I don't know if all hentais are like this, but I seriously doubt it.

The Moe trilogy of Smash Hit (I made the ONLY SHIT amv on the org!! ;p look for it, amv hell 4 XD), Cosprayers (NOT Cosplayer's complex!! totally unrelated), and Love Love?? are typical ecchi fanfare. but the way they all play off each other is pretty fricken genius if you ask me.

The series Daa Daa Daa is truley spectacular! Nothing unique about it though...

As for unique art check out Windy Tales. You'll feel like they made an anime about the game, Zelda: Wind Waker.

Kino's Journey

http://www.themanime.org/viewreview.php?id=752

Basically it's 13 episodes thinly related to each other, about a guy called Kino who rides his bike around a fictional world seeing new civilizations every time. Each episode/civilization focusing on a different aspect of the human psyche. It's deep like allot of other weird anime (LAIN, Boogiepop) without making you feel confused wondering what the hell is going on.

On and there's a number of subtle video filters used in the anime which may seem like a dodgy encode (you know, when you "test it out" by downloading the fansubs) but are actually part of the series.

Hmm...well, off the top of my head...

Mindgame. This is one weird movie. If you thought Paranoia Agent was far too simple in it's execution, and thought Lain was a damn joke, then Mindgame is for you.

Boogiepop Phantom. Non-linear storylines...gah. :P

Ippatsu Kikimusume. Just the crab episode (episode 2 or 3) should be enough to give you the gist of this anime.

Ebichu: The Housekeeping Hamspter. Violent, sick, and twisted comedy/hentai. Wait...that's not that weird, really, from anime...:)
Life's short.

If you are going to watch Pet Shop of Horrors, I would recommend that you read the manga instead. I found that the anime wasn't as well done as I had hoped and the art is a little sketchy. But if you are looking for just the jist of the story then watch it. Otherwise, by the manga form.
