Higurashi No Naku Koro Ni

Post by Diclonius16 » Wed May 30, 2007 8:22 pm

Does anyone know when it comes out in English dub?
For those of you who don't know what it is, it is an anime released last year, huge hit in Japan, and Geneon bought it to dub it, so anyone know when it comes out?
So what if you can see the darker side of me?
No one will ever change this animal I have become.
Help me believe it's not the real me,
Somebody help me tame this animal I have become!

REALLY!!!
I'll save up for that!
Yeah, go to Wikipedia. It says a group called Geneon licensed it for dubbing, and that Japan has a second season, Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni Kai, coming out next month. Not to mention there are 8 PC games out there for it.

Magazine Article

This is the latest news on Higurashi No Naku Koro Ni in the newest NewType magazine.

DVD OF THE MONTH!!

When They Cry: Higurashi Volume 1

"WHEN SOMEONE DESCRIBES a show as "challenging," that's usually the average anime fan's cue to head for the hills. It often means that something really inscrutable and head-scratching is up ahead, leaving you with little idea of what just happened and a slight sense of resentment for having spent your time on something you'll never follow. When They Cry is the best of both worlds in this respect. On the one hand, it's experimental and original in ways that most anime made for TV isn't, one you can gently peel the layers off of over time. On the other, though, it's a visually interesting-and downright painful-series, one you can enjoy immensely even if you don't want to think to much.
The series, called Higurashi no Naku Koro ni in Japan, revolves around a single setting (June 1983, in the tiny town of Hinamizawa) and a single base cast (new transfer student Keiichi Maebara and four female friends). With this setting, the 26-episode show presents six different scenarios, each set in a distinct reality from one another and each centered on the village's annual Cotton-Drifting Festival. After a brutal murder linked to a dam construction project near town, one person has been killed and another gone missing at every festival since-something the locals blame on Oyashiro-sama, the local deity, but Keiichi has other ideas.
The first scenario (the first four episodes on this disc) is a brutal introduction to the rest of the show. It seems to start out like any other romantic comedy, with Keiichi enjoying his new, idyllic country life and hanging out with his new "harem" of girls. In fact, if you just glanced at the show during this bit, with it's cheery music and girls with color-coded hair, you'd wonder what sort of merit there could possibly be to this. But things turn sour quickly as Keiichi comes face-to-face with the Oyashiro-sama curse, and the series makes a complete 180, becoming horror-laced, very creepy and (at its climax) shockingly violent. It's quite an exhilarating experience to go through all this in four episodes...then watch Episode 5, where Keiichi and the gang are all back to blissful harem-anime mode and the second scenario begins, slowly revealing more of Hinamizawa's secrets.
When They Cry is far from the most lavishly animated show out there. The charm's all in the writing, which bounces between whimsical and chilling, and Chiaki Kon's remarkable direction, throwing all sorts of imagery at the viewer and still making it all seem like a concise whole. That's what makes this show "challenging," and if you can deal with brutal violence, this IS A MUST-WATCH.
