Gaia Online is a great place for anime fans to go hang out for free. You can create your own anime inspired avatar and customize it how ever you want. Its a great spot to go chat with other anime lovers.

the org is also a good place to hang out and discuss anime and you can also have anime-inspired avatars that you can customize however you want...

Only bad thing about the org is it's harder to keep the romance going with your Girlfriend/Boyfriend. It's much easier if you have Little avatars that Fish and Gamble.
