I love the NGE series. My first/second anime, i think...

anyways this is a big coincidence because i just saw death and rebirth just today!
i liked it, and it was helpful since i haven't seen the whole series...

i'm looking forward to seeing EoE. and as for the other ones coming out? sign me up!

Well I guess its not essential, but I recommend you have a thorough grasp of the series before you watch EOE. Though even then I didnt quite get it. Im just saying I suggest watching EOE only when you think you are thoroughly saturated with your Evangelion interest. I remember the first time I watched EOE, it was a like a punch in the gut  , which kind of left you needing a little space between you and anything Evangelion for a while....

Anyway, as for the new movie here are my thoughts, I'll try not to include any specific spoilers just my the general thoughts of the movie as a whole. The main difference in the movie to the original eps would probably be the revamp of Tokyo 3, the Evangelions and the Angels. You can tell that where most of the budget when to in this one. The character design remains faithful to the series but the look a lot smother in colour and tone (as they should be) to meet with the modern animes.

One thing i missed was the comedic and subtle (conversational) interactions between the characters such as the ones with Shinji and his two soon to be best friends, as well as the light-hearted moment between Misato, Shinji and Ritsuko. Being only around 1 hour and 40 mins long they cut scenes which arent really essential to the main plot. Though there was a new scene they added between Misato and Shinji which I thought was nice and touching.

Another thing people will notice is the speeding up of the series storyline, having major revelations towards the end of the series already revealed. While the quality is decent for the majority of the film, it only suffered in the darker scenes which is somewhat of a shame since the final battles is at night  . Even so, what stuck to my mind was the more drawn out, more detailed of that final battle. Obviously they pulled out the stops for that one. While not being able to fully appreciate the effects, and animation for that moment, it is a scene I look forward to seeing when a better quality is available.

Form there I foresee major changes happening in the following movies as they cut, condense and add new scenes and events. They will definately be missing whole Angel battles which is a shame, since many of the character developments are driven by them. So while I'll miss the subtle character developments, and interactions that occur over several eps in the series, I hope they dont simply leave out that aspect in the movies. They should compensate with direct if not more powerful singular moments.

So image quality aside it was a very decent movie, I have no regrets watching it. So with God in his heaven, all is right with world...for the moment. 8-)

P.S. there is also a trailer for the second installment Evangelion: Division after the credits. Asuka's debut will be there...and whats that? Unit 06 and its pilot?!?!

If they cut all the Angels that don't appear in the manga, then that means we can say goodbye to Sandalphon (#8), Matarael (#9), and Iruel (#11)... and I don't remember whether or not Leliel (#12) was in there.

I think they continued Evangeliona not ruin...bearing in mind that the first film a success...yes and follow him very promising
Personally, I am very very happy because it's the new Eva...himself an avid fan of Evangelion =)
