Looking for an old anime series/movie

Post by Tr0janV0dka » Sat Mar 22, 2008 10:11 pm

I can't seem to remember what the anime series/movie was called (or even if it was a complete series or just a movie), as I watched it a few years ago on SBS.

Anywhos, to the details. It was set in the future, it had 2 main characters, a male and a female, with a relationship between the two. The female ends up in some sort of army piloting a space-craft mech who is eventually sent off into space, while the male character stays on Earth. The female character goes deeper and deeper into space and the male continues to send messages to the female, with each message taking longer and longer to send due to the vast distance from Earth to the space army's fleet. The male eventually has some sort of emotional breakdown, I think. The last thing I recall was the space army finding an hospitable planet, similar to Earth.

Yeah pretty dodgy description but I watched this like 5 years ago, so I can't be doing too bad if I can give that kind of description :P

Many thanks to the person who can figure this one out!

Didn't know Shinkai stuff was on SBS, I only watched NGE, bubblegum crisis and studio ghibli stuff on it.

Sounds sad... think I may have heard about that somewhere before. The description reminds me of 5cm per second. Saddest movie ever.
