Re: Only anime your dad will watch
My parents are surprised that a 20-year-old girl still looks anime. But they have no problems with it.

Re: Only anime your dad will watch
This morning, my Dad woke me up because he told me that he wanted to show me something really cool; something that I would probably like.
So I walked downstairs groggily to find him sitting at the computer. I stood near him and waited for this, "really cool thing." He then closed the tab that he was in to reveal our computer desktop, which now boldly sported an Ergo Proxy HD background (featuring the main girl with blood seeping from the back of her head.)
The first thought that came to my mind was that I was happy that Dad even knew what anime was (enough to put this background on and call it anime). Second was the fact that he was even willing to put that background as our Desktop. xD
I believe this is some sort of breakthrough, yes? (Does that mean I should check out Ergo Proxy and see if he wants to watch that? xD)

and actually, Funimation is streaming Ergo Proxy (http://www4.funimation.com/video/?page=show&b=28).
Check out the first few eps and then decide if you want to go out and get it/see if your dad is interested

This thread reminds me of last week when my mom stopped by my apartment. She came to steal some of my movies but walked back to me with Claymore instead.
Is this something I would like?
NO MOM!
The way I shrieked gave her the wrong impression

Re: Only anime your dad will watch
I asked my Dad to watch Avatar with us the other day and he said "No, no, no, I'm not watching that Japanese Shit," while he waves his hands around. Why he thought it was an anime... I don't know. He said he thought the whole thing was animated.
I've never really tried to show him an anime before, but he's already convinced all of it is stupid. Anything that has a cartoon look, he automatically thinks is anime, and will reject watching it. He's not a very cuddly person, so I couldn't just ask him all nice if he wanted to watch even just a piece of an anime movie/episode. If I ever manage to make him watch something, he usually sits for 5 minutes then gets up and says "Well, I think I've seen enough TV for today."
Too bad
What's funnier is my mom is now convinced that I looove yaoi (not that much). But the funny part is that she pronounces it "yow-way." Sometimes it'll just come up and she'll say, "Oh no, I know your secret. Don't pretend to hide it. I know you love yow-way." But she says it so seriously, so I just laugh.
If my mom was dead tired and in a good mood, I could probably convince her to watch Miyazaki or something. But that's not often, that she's in a good mood and tired. And my dad hates anything cartoon-y, so I basically have no hopes of convincing my parents to watch anime. XD

I'm pretty sure my friend's mom doesn't know the contents of the Claymore manga when she buys them for my friend. xD

But yeah, I'll check out Ergo Proxy soon.

Re: Only anime your dad will watch
... :C
Um, so anyways the other day I told my dad about the plot of Trigun. He said that it sounded fairly interesting and that he liked goofballs. xD Since Vash consists of 80% goofballery, I thought that maybe he might actually like Trigun.
After watching episode 1, he could say nothing but, "I'LL NEVER GET THOSE 20 MINUTES OF MY LIFE BACK."
'Guess I'll be looking into Ergo Proxy. XD On the plus side, my brother, also the normal anime hater, bought Howl's Moving Castle and wishes to buy Castle in the Sky along with the Cowboy Bebop boxed set. He doesn't really watch stuff online: he buys it if he has the money. xD
So things are at least looking up for him. C:
