Not to mention her acting skills are insanely good. As Asuka, she portrayed the perfect amount of bitchiness and vulnerability, something I don't think the Japanese actress got quite right. And as Chocolate, it amazes me how she can sound completely different as Hunter Chocolate than untransformed.
...Ick. Ick, ick, ICK!!
EEEEEW!!! I loathe Asuka's English voice. The English voice actress over-plays the snotty, arrogant, and rude aspects of Asuka's personality and completely fails to portray the character's fragile, vulnerable qualities. Tiffany Grant, along with Spike Spencer, completely RUINS the experience of Evangelion altogether. I even know someone who considers the English version of Evangelion to be an entirely different series due to the fact that the voice actors fail to portray the character's right. So much of Eva is in the character portrayal, and when that is fucked up, the series is fucked up. Myself, I had entirely different opinions of Eva when watching the sub vs watching trhe dub. After watching the dub (wich I did first), I hated it, I did not get it, I thought it was stupid, and I couldn't for the life of me see what the hell was the big deal. After watching the sub, I loved it, I understood it, and it had grown to be one of my favorite series. The two version's left me with entirely different reactions.
One more note, then I'm done with my anti-Eva dub rant. Tiffany Grant sounds so vocally abrasive throughout the whole series, her voice for Asuka is like nails on a chalkboard. Hell, even my dub-loving brother hated the Eva dub!!

He's got the right mix of smoothness and emotional range to pull off his roles, plus a great narrator to voice Tom.
Yes. Hell yes. I love this man's talent. I haven't seen too much of his work, but him and Scott McNeil are two of my favorite VAs. I hate Transformers Armada, but I loved Scott McNeil's Jetfire, plus he's Rattrap fer God's sake!! And David Lucas was so engaging during Cowboy Bebop, he really did a fantastic job (as did the VAs for pretty much all of the main characters, really.). His portrayal of Spike was so moving. Hell, finishing Bebop for the first time, I sat in shock throughout the end credits. Shitty character portrayal isn't going to do that, not for me anyway. I'm as much aurally oriented as I am visually.
Another VA I really like is someone who probably isn't as recognized (She did Penny on
Inspector Gadget [1980's version], Kim on the
Care Bears Movie 1, Hyena on
Gargoyles, Nefertina on
Mummies Alive, Kida on
Atlantis [movie], Elmyra on
Tiny Toons, and Lady MacBeth on the woefully cancelled Project
G.E.E.K.E.R.,among others), but I really like her voice and she usually does a pretty good job. Her name is
Cree Summer-Francks. She also has an album out, Street Faerie, which is a nice choice of music and vocals that reflects her native-american heritage.
I simply love this woman's voice. It's husky, but not in a rip-your-ears-off, English-Asuka way.
