i've never watched escaflone, but a friend of mine says that it's a very good series. I guess i'll have to give it a try. So far it sounds like you either love it or hate it ... well we'll see what happens.

I loved the show, but I felt the movie just couldn't measure up. The animation was superb, but atory-wise, just didn't feel anywhere near as good.
I like bugging people. Deal with it.

Would of liked it failing that little bit, the black winged guy was cool though.

I really loved it. I just wish it wasn't so expensive to buy.

It just so happens I finally saw the movie today. It wasn't bad at all. I'm not sure which one I prefer more, the series or the movie. Though I'd lean to the series, since the movie was too short for the amount of stuff that happened. movie = too much crammed in. lol

Only seen the first five episodes of the show and the movie, but from that, I'd have to say I definitely liked the movie more. The animation, characaters, music, etc. are just much better. Though I may say otherwise if I had continued watching the series, but I doubt it. And for you people saying the story was "rushed" in the movie, you realize they have to cram basically a seasons worth of story(albeit different in many aspects) into a 90 minute or so movie right?

I totally agree. Although, I give the movie a lot of slack since it's only like 2 hours to fit a 26 episode series in. I mean the movie is really just the story mashed into two hours. Oh and the artwork is so pretty.

Well like you said, you need to watch the entire show before judging it. If you liked the movie, I think you'll like the series A LOT. The series is basically the movie, but in much more detail, therefore the story gets better. Also, the movie came after the series.

OK since for some odd reason I feel like it, I think anyone who hasn't seen Escaflowne should. I find that it appeals to almost everybody since it's so universal in genre. It has romance, drama, action, fantasy, mecha, comedy, etc. For example, my ex-girlfriend loves the romance parts while I liked the fantasy elements (like dragons, swords, etc.). It may not be the best in one category, but it does them all fairly well.

The story is amazing and epic (although it *seems* like a typical girl is transported to a world to save it, etc.) and the characters have excellent designs, are animated well and most are developed well. Oh and the music...IMO Yoko Kanno's best (and of course her music is always excellent). The animation is one of the best of any TV show (next to things like Bebop) and is near OVA quality (exception is noses :)).

I highly recommend it to anyone. Whenever I want a friend to get into anime, I always show this first.

I guess I sort of agree, but just that made it that unenjoyable. Don't get me wrong, the episode "Operation Golden Rule of Love" was a little corny, but it's a plot device. The story itself is excellent and these things make sense within the context of the anime.

When watching anime, one suspends quite a bit of their threshold on reality. If not, I'd hate almost all anime...I mean giant robots fighting Angels to protect Adam? If you think about it almost all anime is ridiculous, but we enjoy it anyway. A great story is still great IMO. But again, I understand the ridiculousness of it :). Just kind of shocked it had such an impact.
