I already have a digi-sub (which, just for the record, I intend to delete once the DVD becomes available on April 15th), but I am still going to see it in the theaters (meant to this weekend, but stuff kept piling up, you know how it is). I love Spirited Away for the simplistic elegance of it's story and simply gorgeous animation. The immediate beginning and ending feel a bit--- unfleshed out to me, but it doesn't really need more than it has.
Hand drawn animation can still kick much ass!! ::pumps fist::
Hurry up and get here, April 15th...
I wonder if I could convince my friends to go with me to see it either this Thursday or this Friday... ::ponders::
Yay! The re-release of Spirited Away!

just saw the movie this Sunday
really liked it, i don't have a great deal of experience with anime or it's history so i'm not sure which films Miyazaki has made but i've seen at least (i really hope this are by Miyazaki so i don't regret this post)
rank
1- Grave of the Fireflies
2- Princess Mononoke
3- Spirited Away (but dubbing was far superior here than in mononoke)
want to see
kiki's delivery service
my neighbor totoro (sp)
i'm sure there's more
i also agree that this was aimed at younger audiences (who am i kidding, it was aimed at kids) because i noticed that there really wasn't a villain in the story, everyone's actions were pretty much explained or justified. is this childish or closer to reality then we might realize...hmmm [/end pompous quote, not really quote but meh]
i give the film an 8

one more thing:i couldnt stop laughing for like 15 minutes after shichiro (i really hope thats right) busted her face on the wall after running down those stairs. not that that has to do with the discussion i just had to mention it

that's better
antagonist>villian
[villian-pictures that skinny guy dressed in black with a mustache that ties the girl up on the railroad tracks in ol' cartoons (were those disney cartoons?!)]
if ur saying that the lady that runs the bathhouse is the villain, then i'd say
'meh..business is business' (although she did put that kid under a spell to steal from her sister, so ur point is well taken)

Yeah, I really liked Yubaba. I don't think she was really evil, she was just trying to run a good business, like Daio said. I also liked how they sort of twisted personalities, like with Lin, how she just didn't want anyone to know she was on Chihiro's side, and Zeniba being very nice. Oh, and Bou (the mouse) was ssssoooo cute. Saving up for a plushie.
