What is your take the the outburst of anime Newbies?

Newbies are a blessing and a curse. More anime fans, even just casual ones, means more anime released, and possibly, though not likely, lower prices. That's a slim chance though as I think the companies know they can get away with charging that price so they will continue to do so. On the other hand, it IS annoying when you see people claiming to be a huge anime fan when all they've seen is americanized, Cartoon Network, dubbed, bastardized, censored-to-hell-and-back anime such as Cowboy Bebop and DBZ. Go see some not televised stuff, folks, then you can call yourself an anime fan.

It happens to any and everything. We, the people who enjoy it first, are lucky enough to do so. Doesn't make us special or any different. However, we grow and grow, and then opinions and views differ and it becomes more pop culture; just because it's more popular.
My whole thing is, I don't care. I like it, nothing that happens will change that. I'm not gonna all of a sudden be disgusted by something I loved just because the masses now like it. The three you mentioned (DBZ, Trigun and Kenshin), I saw a while ago; trigun being the lastest. I started with DB when it first came on...damn, universal? I remember, UPN. Along with Sailor moon, for the first season, and Ronin Warriors. Use to watch them everyday. And of course the stuff they use to show on Sci fi back then, I don't know what they do anymore. But I still like it all, I have seen other animes, collected alot of them too. I don't care if it becomes more and more of the masses cause it'll still have the same place in my heart that it did then.
I'm a little disappointed that theyll be dubbed, especially kenshin, but it's a way for people to see it before they buy it. Which helped me out when I was starting out. I saw Akira on Sci fi channel, sometime during......hold up, no...I bought Akira in 92 and saw something on sci fi (afterthat?) oh I can't remember. I remember that horror anime with the space crew was attacked by some alien cat. It reminded me of Aliens.

That's funny to me.dwchang wrote:C) (this sounds stupid) pride (No joke...I've met a handful of fans that tell me that English is a superior language and blah blah blah...these would be the type that buy EVERYTHING USA...like their cars, clothes, etc...there's a fine line between pride and racism.).
I liked dubbed in special cases. I'm not starting a debate, this is just me. The difference between dub and sub depends on what I see it in first. Example, I bought Akira in 92, the first dubbed copy. I loved it. I later saw the new dubbed copy=crap. I hated the voices, I also saw the subbed and didn't feel it was any better then the english copy. The perfect anime, in a sense with the language, would do something like Blood did. when Saya was talking to the Japanese female, they subbed it, when she was talking to the america guy, she spoke english. That added the whole in reality feel for me. anyway, but last example, I can't stand the dubbed version of Kenshin, HATE isn't the word.
I give credit to some of the early dubs, the originals from early 90s. then when they saw they could make money they tried to put out more and then didn't put any quailty into the parts (I feel, not sure if that's fact or not)
In the end, it's what you like, as long as you can watch and enjoy the anime.

See, you gotta first realize that I lived in KY at the time...I shit you not, people argued with me about dubs and just how English was this SUPERIOR language and that EVERYTHING should be in English. Now sub/dub argument aside, this is just ignorance and racist (to a degree).Kracus wrote:That's funny to me.dwchang wrote:C) (this sounds stupid) pride (No joke...I've met a handful of fans that tell me that English is a superior language and blah blah blah...these would be the type that buy EVERYTHING USA...like their cars, clothes, etc...there's a fine line between pride and racism.).
As for dubs, I agree. Don't get me wrong, I am VERY purist or whatever (since I like seeing things in their native and intended langauges), but as long as you're enjoying something, there's not really anything I say that matters. It's about having fun and stuff right? Live and let live I guess...

i agree newbs help make up sheer numbers, but when you ahve to put up with bloated, arogant, noobish rant it just gets annoying ... theres a line from "Enders Game" that sorta applies to this ...Alucard_FoN wrote:Newbies are a blessing and a curse. "Conscripts make great cannon fodder, but if we want our officers to survive then they have to willingly voulenteer them selves." or something along those lines. It sorta relates, with people and their noobish way of thinking being nothing but a nusiance to try carrying out any kind of intelegent conversation with are some what like the conscripts. While the "enlightened" who have made an effort to find more material to view other then the hack jobs we see on american tv are the officers who voulenteered them selves to find more material to "expand their minds with"... now can somone tell me if that makes sense to you guys ... or was i jsut wasting my energy tryign to explain that link i saw ...
now thats just thinking with a closed mind for you ... not that i can think with an open one ... i probably keep missing the 3rd side of the coin ... If somone thinks that(the above quote) is the correct way of doing any thing, and for the sole reason for that thinking is becasue they belive it's better just because it's american ... well thats just sad.dwchang wrote:

With that kind of logic ... lets try this ... Geo Metro Vs ... say a ... Mitsubishi GTO ... Geo is produced by GMC (or was), therefore its american ... therefore it is better then any other cars ... therefore it is better then a GTO ... that just dosn't work now dose it?
English is the superior language? since fucking when? A superior language would be one that is easy to learn, easy to understand, dosn't leave room for retarded errors and is easy to use in any situation. English dose not fit that catagory, it's been dubbed the (or one of the) hardest languages to learn because of how many retarded rules and exceptions to those rules it has, those just complecate the language ... and i feel that it was made like that (along with musical notation) for very obvious reasons ... but i won't get on the whole "illiterate easily controled masses of the past* rant. But i don't think there is a real superior language, all of them have their advantages, and their disadvantages. To say that a language is better just because it's your mother tounge is plain stupid.
now i'm sorry for going on on a psycho rant ... but i don't feel like deleting it ... sum up my argument ... noobs are a double edged sword, they are great for adding to bulk numbers, but not very good for a stimulating conversation. Do i (or any one else) really have any right to pick on noobs, problaby not. But who cares. I feel that the quality of being a noob has nothing to do with how long somone has been doing something, but more with how they think and act. i think i'm done now ... sorry

Wow from reading your rant (at least the beginning) I was scared you were thinking that I said that and didn't read my reply. I have highlighted the reason I thought this. In any case, I DON'T feel that way...I sure hope you knew that. In any case, it's not that surprising that people are conceited enough to say such a statement...it was Kentucky

Very true, and not just in anime. That applies pretty much anywhere.I feel that the quality of being a noob has nothing to do with how long somone has been doing something, but more with how they think and act.
CN is my sole source of anime. Not because I don't not want other anime; I just can't afford it.
I can't decide if I want good anime to be more mainstream. On one hand, more people can see how great it is and I have people to talk about it with (in my school). On the other hand, I don't really feel I have this special, unique thing to myself. It wouldn't be so special and unique.
