First off i'd have to say Snitter and the Todd from the Plague Dogs...granted that's not anime in the least, but it is aniMATED, and i just they kick too much ass to leave out.
Then there's the bed from Roujin Z
and Canaeda from Akira, even if he is a whiney bitch sometimes
Spike and Jet from Cowboy Bebop
Ford Fairlane from the Adventure of Ford Fairlane...ok, this ones not even animated, but once again, too much ass is kicked
and on that note, Data from the goonies!!!
As for some other anime characters now...D - Vampire Hunter D
Kenshin - Rurouni Kenshin....also the guy who taught him when he was younger who's name escapes me at the moment
That one guy who's name i can't for the life of me remember from the movie of the same obscure reference...i guess you'll just have to take my word on how awesome he was
Pazu - Castle in the Sky
Vash is ok i suppose - Trigun
Ashitaka - Princess Mononoke
the sutts - Spirited Away
Kintaro - Golden Boy (he's hugely partaking of some kick assness)
Jubei - Ninja Scroll
Seta and Setsuko....i think that's their names anyway - Grave of the Fireflies
And that's too many already, besides, i haven't seen too many animes so i wouldn't know, i'm too damn stupid!!!

Uhm...it would be Kaneda. I don't think he's a countryBanner H wrote:and Canaeda from Akira, even if he is a whiney bitch sometimes
Uhh....I love GotF as much as the next person, but "coolest character ever?" I think a lot of people are missing the point of the thread and are just putting characters (or anime) that they like. Like I said, great anime and very tragic characters, but far from cool. I think your other choices were going the right way .Banner H wrote:Seta and Setsuko....i think that's their names anyway - Grave of the Fireflies

Basically take Spike, and mulitply the bum factor by 50. put him in a small divided town with cheesy effects, low frame-rates, women and school-girls who all want you as ther bodyguard, and you've got George.
gee sounds interesting ... lots of room for many "odd" encounters ...

Ok dwchang, thank you for the spelling correction, haha, i did notice a slight similarity to certain country that, i KNEW i'd get that wrong. Which brings me to my next point, as far as most people think you might be right about Seta and Setsuko, but they definately have to make my list. Mostly Seta, and mostly because i just imagine it must suck to have all that happen to you that young. Just in watching that movie, i admired him for his simple fight for survival, his attempts to keep him and his sister alive. He was awesome because of his will and his trials, and she was awesome becuase she was the test of his will and for the most part the extent of his trials.

coolest anime character
8) I'm actually quite happy that some people mentioned Utena. Practically anyone from Utena (except Mikki's sister) is sweet.
I was, however, appalled no one mentioned Yu Yu Hakusho. Kurama is the sweetest character. I mean, WHO ELSE can split someone's head in half? Hiei is just the embodiment of badass, b/c he can make short ppl look and BE sweet.
From Inuyasha, hands down Miroku (who else can be serious and be a pervert at the same time?) and Sesshomaru (self-explanatory).
From Slayers...Zelgadis (he's a rock that weilds a sword dammit!), Xellos (watch certain eps of TRY) and Dynast Grausherra (he's feared but no one knows anything about this guy)
And then you have numerous 'low-key' badass characters, such as Kuruneko-sama, characters from Haunted Junction (god that show is hilarious), Kaoru (yes, I believe so. She can take out dudes twice her size w/o breaking that wooden sword), Rubette, Niari, Gokudo, Gin (and many others from Gokudo ["Terrelarian! Terrelarian!"]) and there are many other 'low-key' baddass characters that I could name, but I can't remember at the moment. But they're there.
Then you have flashy badasses like Tasuki ("GENROU IS BAAAAAAAAAACK!!!") and Kouji, Inuyasha, ya know, characters that KNOW they're badass and flash it.
And some others to just list:
Sanosuke
Aoshi
Sanosuke's huge butcher knife
Genkai
Android 17
Mirai Trunks
KID Gohan (esp in Budokai)
Mosquiton's servants (can't member their names)
Sango (and her boomerang)
CB cast (except Julia. I really didn't like her)
Hotohori
Nuriko
Marron (Bakuretsu Hunters)
Tirra (I think that's how you spell it)
Ashton! (...the barrels are your friends)
the old granny from I! My! Me! Strawberry eggs
Alucard
Integral
Walter
Twilight Sazuka
Lord Illpalzo
Canal
Nataku (X)
Dragon-half characters ("Saaaaaauuuu-CCCEEEEERRRRRR!")
...and that's about all I can remember for now.
