No arguments on VHD Bloodlust. Along the lines of original intent, the original voice acting was done in English and the creators were involved with the US voice acting. I also think think the animation was directed for that type of talking and hence the great lip movements. That brings up another point since a lot of shows cut words out and reword things just to match lip movements and that's good for some people, but like I said, I like seeing things uninterrupted and this obviously messes with translation...but back on topic, VHD is definitely not under that since it's not even dubbed. Dubbed means dubbed OVER the original language. In this case it was English and they did a superb job.CaTaClYsM wrote:When I say that the dub's can be better, my two examples are Hellsing and VHD Bloodlust. Hellsig takes place in england and is MUCH easier to watch when the people of the coutry can speak their native language. And to top it off, the voice actors all did great jobs for their characters. Bloodlust, was made for the english dubbing so on top of great voice actors, the lip movements matched up perfectly. I think the curcumstances are rare for me to actually like a dub more than the original, but in these cases there are no doubts.
the trigun dub is horribly wrong

1984...my favorite book of all time. I think this explains quite a few of my pessimistic views in life . Oh well. I LOVE that book .Propyro wrote:Severly off topic with the trigun dub issue ... (like most of what i've posted)
yea, i've read most of that stuff, Animal farm was in my grade 11 law class and LoTF was in grade 11 english, so was 1984 ... one of the better books i've read. As for the oworks of plato ... plato dictated for socrates ... so most of socrates' later writings are generaly regarded to be plato's thoughts with socrates' name on them, or plato elaborating on socrates' words using socrates' name.
Grade 9 english for me was nothing short of a hell hole ... we did fuck all and i got stuck with a teacher that wound up looking down on me, up to this dayi think she still regards me as a retard. The best book we read was "A Cue for Treason", actualy that was the only book we did as a class ...
But i'm surprised you guys did plato & socrates in grade 9 english since i had just learned about them in my grade 12 philosophy class (grade 12 university level religion) last semister ... god was that ever a hard class ...
I guess you could be surprised, but my 9th grade English teacher was AMAZING. Like I said, he opened my eyes to well...the "real" world. Up until then I thought everything was happy go lucky and I even :gasp: didn't realize books could be so meaningful and symbolic (hey now..I was freakin' 14 ). He has won numerous teaching awards and was also my senior AP English Teacher. He has 100% success rate with the AP test in that all of his students get a 3 or higher...I believe the nation's average is about 50% success rate....although I don't think you know what I'm talking about with AP classes since you're in Canada.
Senior year we read Crime and Punishment, Waiting for Godot (funny stuff), The Metamorphisis (sp), Beowolf, Grendel (great book) and so on. I've read some great books because of him and like you said...I was quite lucky since even at 9th grade I was able to understand these things through his excellent teaching. It sucks about yours...oh well.

*1984 spoilers!*
yea i loved that book to, i think i finished it in 4 days, everyone pretty much shit themselves when they found out i was finished the novel so quickly. I think i finished it at like 3:00Am ... my first reaction when i had finished was to throw the book at teh wall and go back to sleep. the notion that Winston had so whole-heartedly (sp?) submitted to the party and the fact that the party's reign can continue hypotheticaly forever just pissed me off, but it was still a great book. A real eye opener, the movie sucked ... since our assignment was to compare and contrast the book and the movie.dwchang wrote: 1984...my favorite book of all time. lucky you ... I was always into reading since i was quite the anti-social in elementry school. I just never started reading good books untill about grade 11. But yoru right, i don't under stand the AP tests.dwchang wrote: I guess you could be surprised, but my 9th grade English teacher was AMAZING. I remember waiting for godot ... that was a pretty funny play, despite it's "uneventfulness" ... here's a pretty good synapsys/parody for it too ... http://www.musearts.com/cartoons/pigs/godot.html. i never read any of the other stuff you've mentioned though. I know the myth behind beowolf and grendel, but the version i read was a condensed version made for kids, the while story was about 7 pages, including the illustrations ... pretty sad, but it gets the basic meaning of the story out in a very blunt manner.[/url]dwchang wrote: Senior year we read Crime and Punishment, Waiting for Godot (funny stuff), The Metamorphisis (sp), Beowolf, Grendel (great book) and so on. Oh man, I don't know about you, but that ending is what really clinched it for me. The fact that even "love" can't withstand within a totalitarian government. Also that no matter what they still lost...it was hopeless.Propyro wrote:*1984 spoilers!*

It also showed me that we aren't THAT far away from such things. I mean the Government CAN do that sort of surveilance (IIRC the Carnivore system DOES look for things in YOUR e-mail). Also people ARE that easy to manipulate. Just look at the press and advertising today.
Oops! Now they're going to come after me since I'm bashing it all...NYOOOOOOOOO!!!!
Well AP is basically "Advanced Placement." It allows you to take a more advanced class in HS and if you pass the test, you get college credit. Does wonders for people since they can come in with some 60 hours of credit (like my old roomie).Propyro wrote:lucky you ... As for Waiting for Godot, yeah it's amazing how funny a play about two people just waiting can be. I mean if I summed the whole 100+ pages...they literally just WAIT there the WHOLE time. I also saw this play with Robin Williams and (I think) Dustin Hoffman as Estragon and Vladimir (unsure if that was the name of 2nd character). Good stuff. I could go into more "meaningful" things like how they're waiting for God or possibly someone to take them out of Polland during the WWII, but I won't...oh wait I just did .

the ending was great ... but the impact it had on a sleep deprived mind was a bit heavy ... i had to stop thinking aobut hte book for a few days and read the last 10 pages over to understand what the hell had just happened.dwchang wrote:

EGAD! quick hide in the secret room behind the book shelf!dwchang wrote: Oops! Now they're going to come after me since I'm bashing it all...NYOOOOOOOOO!!!!
hmmm, sounds interesting ... if they had a system like that in canada that would be interesing ... i'd might be able to pull it off if i actualy tired to apply myself.dwchang wrote:

yea you got the characters right. Vladimir, Estragon, Pozzo, Lucky(quite an ironic name), and The Boy. I don't think i'm missing any one unless you want to call the tree a character. I liked lucky's line .. the onely one in the play, and it's a 3 page sentance. God you'd need a hell of set of lungs to pull that one off in one shot.dwchang wrote: As for Waiting for Godot, yeah it's amazing how funny a play about two people just waiting can be. I loved it. The main character looking up at Big Brother's picture and crying...priceless.Propyro wrote: the ending was great ... but the impact it had on a sleep deprived mind was a bit heavy ... i had to stop thinking aobut hte book for a few days and read the last 10 pages over to understand what the hell had just happened.
I think Lucky was the name of the boy, but yeah his 3 page sentence is cool. Nowhere near "Ulysses" by James Joyce which is an entire novel that is one sentence. I believe it's called the hardest book of all time.Propyro wrote:yea you got the characters right. Vladimir, Estragon, Pozzo, Lucky(quite an ironic name), and The Boy. Re: the trigun dub is horribly wrong
Err...perhaps you should read everyone else's replies before replying. I think we are all entitled to like the stupid japanese (and yet original)voices just as you are entitled to like a voice (that IMO) lacks the emotional depth of Wolfwood and just sounds goofy.bargeten wrote:dude the voice is much better then the stupid japanese voice the english r really good ok so if u dont like it dont watch itel_farlo wrote:just watching my second ep of the dubbed trigun...on cartoon network....

I might add that I applaud such an ignorant statement (that of calling it "stupid japanese)...that was sarcasm by the way.
