By animation do you mean art style?...the the animatoin was superb...though I'm don't like some of the styles of certain animators used in the Animatrix.
I don't have the dvd yet, so far I've only seen:
Final Flight of the Osirus: Grand use of cgi brought to you by Squaresoft, these folks are extremely picky in the detail of human figures (that ass :O).
Second Renessance Part 1: A breif history in the creation and cause for the machines to turn agains humanity. I like it but it's reviewability is pretty low.
Second Renassance Part 2: Being the director of both of these parts was the same guy responsable for Blue Submarine #6, I was wondering where all the action was gonna be...thus this all out war scene finally showed me..good job.
Detective Story: Watanabe's first story in this project is done in a 1920-30's style of the modernized world with a black and white gradiant added to give the appearance of a rustic old time setting,...with some color. It was good, but kinda slow.
Program: I love this simply cause it was animated so stylishly, and the scenery changes every 2 minutes. It's pretty much a lovers quarrel within the matrix and leaves main character to choose over freedom...or her love? Done by the guy who brought you Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust, I expected no less that what I saw.
Kid's Story: Watanabe's other segment. This one is drawn to look like a bunch of sketches made in a flip book, giving the people an unusually appearance, dispite the ogaly look, the story and the animation was swell, especially the ending with the remenescant (sp?) leep of faith. This and FFOTO mixed in with Matrix Reloaded, if you didn't noticed that the kid in this one is also the kid who followed Neo around while in Zion.
So thats what my thoughts on it is so far.....

Correct, that would represent three different equations, each horizontal line containing the "x" "y" and "z" variables of one equation. Matrixes are no fun, because they're so particular.dwb wrote: Off topic but matrixes looked like this right [0 9 8]

Beyond is my favorite, mostly because it did an excelent job at capturing the view of the Matrix through a child's eyes(if i were a kid, i would definately be outside throwing bottles after watching this)But as far as storyline goes I think TSR parts one and two would have to be my choices. The only movie I really didnt like was Matriculated.I was very dissapointed that Chung didnt deliver on this one.I expected the same bizarre yet amazing work that he usually does.but aside from that i thought that the Animatrix had lived up to it was suppose to be.

My thoughts:
Good:
Detective Story - Something I really didn't see coming. The style was classy, the main character was great, and there was actually sensable dialogue. I liked animated Trinity as well.
Second Renissance I and II - Beautifully done in both the artistic and intellectual sense, this would've made a better movie than the matrix. At the same time I found it somewhat unbelievable, but still, it was probably the best part of the dvd.
Program - Just a nice little action short, plus it had emotion and character behind it which definately places it above the Matrix movies.
Okay:
Beyond - It was an interesting thought, but its main problem was that it was an animated short and there was no room for it to expand upon itself. The main character recieves no great revelation or discovery of the Matrix. She's just kinda like, yeah, what the hell was that all about?
World Record - The best part of this was the ending, it was just so well executed. The way the agent yelled "sit down", just great. However, I was really feeling it before that, it was just kind of dull and predictable.
The Matrix - Sure effects are nice, but this movie is rattled with unneccessary and unbelievable character actions as well as a mass of cliche and bullshit. I wasn't appauled by it, but it hardly ranked as one of the best movies ever like so many seen to think.
Final Flight of the Osiris - It was pretty, that was about it...
Shit:
Kid's Story - It was crap, I didn't like the animation or the main character (the kid). I never thought I would think that 9 minutes was too long for a short story, but lets face it, we all knew what was going to happen in the first 30 seconds, everything after that was just drawn out and boring.
Matriculated - This had potential, and I really did like the first half, until I realized as the sentinals arrived how this was going to end. I literally said out loud, "That's great, everybody's gonna die but her and the machine and its going to be an akward love/interest type thing". These stories are meant to leave the viewer with a non-traditional thought in their head, but frankly I found it entirely too cliched.
The Matrix Reloaded - It took everything I didn't like about the first Matrix and amplified it. Bah, BAH I SAY!
Overall:
Well, I liked mainly the stuff that the Wachowski brothers DIDN'T do, which makes sense considering I didn't like their movies. Anyways, I'd say the dvd is worth a buy for some of the better stories, even if you're like me and you don't especially like the Matrix. If you DO like the matrix I'd go give this a buy right now.

Well, I felt the movie in general was good. It was really one of those movies that you have to watch again, just becuase you didn't understand some stuff. Too bad I only got it on Pay-Per-View. My favorite short storywise was Final Flight of the Osiris, because I'd seen Reloaded the day before and well, it was just interesting to see how they could close up the hole about the ship.
One day I'll fly away.
Leave all this to yesterday.
What more could your love do for me?
When will love be though with me?
Why live life from dream to dream,
and dread the day when dreaming ends?

I thought that overall, the Animatrix was good but very depressing. I hated the one about running, though; it didn't make any sense and the animation sucked. Kid's Story had a great story but sucky animation; Matriculated had great animation and a sucky story. I liked all the others.

I like the Animatrix so far. I got about halfway through. The only thing is, there is a song that they play at the crosswalk scene. It is the same song as was played in BoogiePop Phantom. My question is, what is that song's title? And where can I get it? It's such a creepy melody.
