Let's see how awful it gets once we get to Anji and Soujirou's backgrounds since both are well..... very questionable in the themese it tackles. Of course considering they entirely too out the motivations of Aoshi and Shishio... hell might as well award teh same treatment to the two more of the villains.

And while a certain amount of editing is fine to make a show work on television the execs need to pay attention before they choose a show. I mean, it is one thing liek in Trigun to take out a few guns to the head scenes, albiet their inconsitency with this policy did baffle me, but it retained the story and you lost no real motivations or content in general.
Kenshin on the otherhand.... the execs probably saw the humor of the first 10 eps and thought the violence was reworkable. Thing is this is a very deep story. There is a lot of death and many of the characters each have their own motivations for why they turned out as they did. Some of the characters very much are alternate paths of one another. You toss out a lot of the back stories and motivations then that is all lost and the show is not the same.
Now had they had Kenshin on an slot on Adult Swim Action this would work. At 90 plus eps at 4 a week it is a good length. They wouldn't have to edit nearly as much as for Toonami and thus retain much of the same story as it was intended. At that point a tiny edit for blood or a decapitation here and there would not be as huge of an issue.
Now there are plenty of shows that can be edited for Toonami much better thank Kenshin.

Either way, I've discussed this with you in private and for the most part agree (hell I said some of those things ).
I think what they are doing is taking out the guts of Kenshin and trying to make it this kid's samurai/ninja show (i.e. Toys!!! ooh!). As you said, I don't think they realized the story is actually quite deep and woven fairly intricately with it's dualities (Kenshin/Soujirou, Anji/Sano, Kenshin/Shishio, etc.), sad backstories, etc. and to take this out is to fundamentally change all that is Kenshin (and the reasons we love it).
To me, what they're airing isn't Kenshin...it's...Samurai X That's how much I think they changed it .

CN is truly messing up Rurouni Kenshin. They edit it in a stupid way. They make a person die of injuries but they show no blood. It ruins the coolness of the show. I dread seeing the episodes where they show Anji's and Soujiro's past. Both of those are bloody and without the blood in it, the true meaning of the stories are ruined. It's merely trashing another anime.

I don't think it's the blood that's the main problem with both of your pasts (although you are correct in that they will edit them). The problems with these are that children are murdered (oh and not to mention it's Buddhism and NOT some derivative Judeo-Christian Religion) and in the other a child is abused and ultimately murders. Regardless they've already butchered it...so no point in discussing it...these will be no exception.

Sadly, Chang has a point. Regardless of the obvious butcheries that are going to occur, its better to forget about it and move on. Hopefully, all the kids who watch the show on Toonami will check out the real deal when they get a little older. I just can't imagine what they're going to do for the Shisisio fight, oh well, that eps gonna be maybe 5 minutes edited.
The best effects are the ones you don't notice.

I don't get cable, so I've never seen toonami/CN/AS/WTF/ or any of these other channels. But I'm familiar with American anime edits, and can imagine how horribly something like Kenshin would be changed to suit the suits who run these stations. Where is the series at right now on this station? Maybe they'll skip the whole Kyoto arc, using one episode of stills and some lame voice actor narrating the generic version of what happened ("Kenshin went to Kyoto to have tea with his hitokiri successor and discuss the need for peace over violence, and after a hearty game of rock-paper-scissors, Shishio laughed and agreed with Kenshin. Then Sano, Kaoru, and Yahiko meet up with a flower girl named Misato who uses sharp gardening tools to collect roses, and they all went touring the country side and found this little inn where they decided to stay overnight, until Kenshin realized he lost all their money in the rock-paper-scissors game"), then they can skip ahead to the light-hearted episodes that follow.
Is that really so inconceivable?

::shudders:: I wouldn't even be suprised if they made the entire Shishio fight into a single episode after their done killing it. There is a lot of blood in there. I know they'll cut out most of the blood in that fight but maybe we'll see some. There have been occasions where some blood is shown on Toonami. Let's just hope we get lucky. Even though it's just a lost hope.SSJVegita0609 wrote: Regardless of the obvious butcheries that are going to occur, its better to forget about it and move on.
