I like these sketches, I saw them in Newtype and Anno is going with the project, only he said they do not want the film makers to follow the anime as though it were a base, I especially like the sketch of Asuka, and I hope that they can find a good actress for that plugsuit, well, I cannot wait for it to come out

Only what you have seen on this thread, though I have searched the internet for more and cannot find any

Back to the subject at hand....
Well, I haven't posted in a while but I hafta offer a few thoughts...
1) If I am not mistaken, even the ending of the series (in all its concievability) hasn't quite made the transition in animation. So, it would be very hard to have a L-A movie to be completely accurate to the ending with CGI. We have been through a full series, 1 movie, 1 re-cut and (IMHO flawed) movie and are starting with another Director's Cut edition of the show. As much as the ending is more metaphysical, its still very difficult to come across in animation. It would be very, very difficult for this to be cleared up (read: "dumbed down") for American audiences. How many people have seen "The Black Hole," "2001," "Jacob's Ladder?" As much as the right people will get it, it won't be completely successful if it isn't modified for alot to get it.
2)If they want to make the movie, fine.. more power too them, just understand that CGI's aren't infallible, don't let CGI tell the story, and remember this needs decent acting to actually enforce the plot.
3)I would hate to see this become the complete synopsis of the story for a 2+ hour film. Boy is the pilot for giant robot to battle aliens. Aliens turn out to be actual angels. Boy is confused. He has low self esteem. Everyone enforces his low self esteem. He has to save the world. Wacky special effects opus occurs. Humanity is goo... Teh End (typo intended). It better be set up to be at least 3 movies to try to get in the deeper elements.
4)Although I have stated that NGE is NOT my favorite show, I can say that it is indeed unique in its underlying themes. These must stay apart of the movie or it will just become the basic Robot vs Monster that is somewhat considered typical by most American Audiences.
5)Don't read too much into the plug suit picture. Of course it looks alluring. `Twas meant to. Remember that Tomb Raider had a woman being touted for the movie then Angelina Jolie was brought in. Its just to sell the film (Note: I know Tomb Raider sucked, this was just example of how things will change). This is gonna probably have the early twenty-late teens for pilots. This means you might see an Olson Twin showing up for Asuka. I won't even attempt to cast the film since this is probably a multi-national group and you will get people you won't even know (probably Aussie or Kiwi as per the latest trend) to get to play parts of the film. I wouldn't stake a claim on major star power (God help us if someone puts Samuel L Jackson in there just to put him in there).
Sorry for the length of this post. I am very cautious about this film project. With the trend to go to Japan and pick up movie rights to remake so that Americans can see them, it makes me edgy. Most of us (Americans) want action... very little plot... maybe some nudity... and explosions. However, since I know that James Cameron has the US rights to the Battle Angel Alita (Gunm) movie, I guess its only a matter of time before we start seeing some mainstream L-A Anime-based releases to fill up the growing need of new and original in America.

Unfortunately, there's nothing in the series or movie that really shows any of that... in fact, all of the Rei clones in the tanks are probably older than a few days.Savia wrote:Rei-II gave the appearance of being 14, but her actual age is uncertain due to her cloned nature. The one at the beginning of the series, Rei-I, is also of uncertain age. Rei-III also appeared to be 14 when she was only a few days old. I believe that, as Gendo created Rei as a 'substitute' for Yui's place in his heart (and took Ritsuko's mother as a replacement for the physical side of things)...
Ask me about my secret stash of videos that can't be found anywhere anymore.

Too bad that somwhat invalidates your earlier claim:the Black Monarch wrote:Unfortunately, there's nothing in the series or movie that really shows any of that... in fact, all of the Rei clones in the tanks are probably older than a few days.Savia wrote:Rei-II gave the appearance of being 14, but her actual age is uncertain due to her cloned nature. Funny how you did that to yourself.the Black Monarch wrote:Rei wasn't given the NERV tour until after Yui died. There's no reason why she couldn't have been alive previous to that.
So again...since there is no evidence of this and we already see that the clones are 14 y/o, this would imply that Gendo's Rei I which he tours around NERV was created *after* Yui died. This also furthers the point Savia made that Rei was created to fill the void after Yui died. Perhaps that's why she looks like her? Hmmm....
