To those lucky bastards (burn!) owning the set; I'm wondering about one more thing before I preorder the first 2 renewal discs; Did they go all the way and make them dual layered? Kinda disliked the loss of quality ADV putting 4 eps & 4 audio tracks on single layered discs gave.

According to CDJapan, all the disks but the Test-Type 01 disk are single-side/dual-layer disks.

and cd japan are correct. Certianly the 3 that I ripped for source footage were all dual layer.

Jebadia: If something is encoded with a horizontal resolution of 720 pixels, I'm going to keep it that width or smaller. Enlarging would just be a waste of space. And try as you might, it is simply impossible to restore many anamorphic sources to their exact original aspect ratios, because doing so would often result in a height measured in fractional pixels. For example, resizing a 720x480 source to a 2.35:1 aspect ratio would result in a vertical resolution of 306.3829787... pixels. Oh sure, I could just round it to 304 (which is a nice whole multiple of 16), but then it wouldn't be quite the same aspect ratio. So basically, anamorphic sources are just plain bad for people like me who obsess over details and getting things perfect.

Yeah you can't get the resolution to exactly were you want it within that fraction, of course rounding it to a multiple of 16 isn't gonna make the people on the picture look smashed or stretched out of proportion. Sure you'd like to get the picture perfect, but it's not gonna happen anyway. It's just a plumber's wet dream.

As for the width beyond 720, I ment with mpeg2 copies, it would be sick to force someone to watch something of a higher resolution via mpeg4, especially me (the the suxx0r video card) where the video would be chewed the pieces just trying to watch it.

Aside of working with anamorphic sources, in the end, they are much nicer to watch.
